The call to her arms, Chapter 1
What they had not anticipated though, was that their meeting point, the “Planete Jazz”, was not only a club opened at night, but also a café during the day. And what they could have foreseen even less was that it also happened to be one of the main headquarters for the organized Resistance in Paris.
The dark-skinned woman was still trying to figure out how to answer the young mother without sounding too alarming, when she heard her name.
“Hey Kit, we finally got that whiskey you ordered last month… It’s in the truck. Do you want me to…”
The short-haired brunette who had just appeared interrupted herself when she saw the two visitors.
“Oh, sorry… I didn’t know you were not alone.”
“That’s okay, Shane.” The older woman said, before she made the introductions.
Shane greeted the young woman and winked at the boy, who gave a shy smile as he snuggled up a bit more against his mother.
Kit proceeded to recount their story to her friend, giving her a significant look at the mention of “Leon”. The young woman nodded, knowing what was coming before the older woman even had to ask.
“Shane, could you please go and check that this whiskey really is the one we know and not a fake one?”
The brunette gave a serious nod and left without another word.
Kit watched her friend’s retreat then turned back to the young woman. When she saw the look of worry on her face, she reached out for her hand and spoke in a soft voice.
“Don’t worry… You are in the right place. And we’re going to help you.”
The young mother gave her a small smile.
“Thank you…” she whispered genuinely, “Thank you so much.”
Kit nodded with a smile, then she stood up.
“Right… How about we feed you and the little fellow while we wait for… hum… What is your sister in law’s name again?”
“Christina… Though everyone calls her Tina.”

The blonde walked through the large wrought ironed gate of the Jardin du Luxembourg, and as she engaged into the long alley that led to the large central fountain, her step was nonchalant and her face exuded nothing but calm and serenity, just like any other stroller in the park on that beautiful morning.

Thanks so much for posting this story. You picked a very interesting time and location for this. Lots of tension, drama and heartbreak are inevitable given the circumstances. I hope Bette and Tina can find strength and solace in each other to get them through it all.
Hey K !! I’m so late in catching up with this new story of yours I’m ashamed ! Anyway, I believe you already know by now what I think of it, and what I think of your writing, but just wanted to drop in and say “YOU’RE A FRACKING ROCKSTAR !!!!” I mean, in case you didn’t know… ;) thank you for this new gift of a story.
Very Interesting. Love it. I am hooked my friend.
This is the beginning of a great love story.
My dad was stationed in England and got lost in France on a mission, the resistance got him out, it was one of the very few stories he told.
Sweet mother of pearl Kw – 20 pages to “set the scene”!?! It’s like Christmas come early (LOL). This is BRILLIANT! I’ve always had a fascination with WWII and Civil War based stories. The opening evokes an array of emotions that are so palpable and hint at the intrigue to come that it sucked me in right away. I’m looking forward to seeing where you take us on this journey. All I can say is Godspeed to our gals. Patiently but eagerly looking forward to your next chapter :)
Totally engrossing. I held my breath while reading. This story has the makings of a true tibette classic.
