Tina laughed “ She does look okay “
“She looks fine “ Bette assured her “she is a fantastic credit to you “
Tina turned and looked at Bette
“I know she’ll be okay – I just keep seeing her as this tiny little bundle of life who needs me “
“Angie is always going to need her mommy. Wait until all the tears when we drive her to University – Yale is not that far away though- its only a couple of hours drive “
Tina laughed at the absurdity of Bette’s comment – Angie was just starting elementary school and Bette was discussing then taking her to Yale
“You better be kidding Porter “
“Not really “ Bette said “My baby is going to Yale – at a push I might let her go to Harvard “
Tina laughed and slipped her hand in Bette’s
“She is 5 years old “
“So ?”
Tina laughed and took one last look at Angie in her new environment
“She is really going to be okay “ Bette said putting her arm around Tina. Tina sighed
“Lets go and have a coffee “
Bette and Tina walked out together
“Look “
A couple of sets of parents were standing in the playground having a quiet weep
“I know “ Tina said “We will all get over it “
Bette kissed Tina on the cheek “She is happy – that’s all that matters “
Tina nodded. Bette took Tina’s hand and they walked a couple of blocks in silence. Bette didn’t push Tina – just allowing her to get her head together in her own way.
“Hungry ?” Bette asked
“I just need a coffee – when you go to work I’ll go home and have a good weep then I will be okay “
“I am not going to work “ Bette revealed
“What ?”
“James and I had a discussion over lunch a few weeks ago and we agreed that the day our child starts school we should get a free day off. So when his daughter starts school he gets the day off and as today my daughter started school I get the day off. “
“Bette ! “
“It will be fine “ Bette assured her “I have been keeping on top of my emails and there is nothing that is demanding my attention today or even tomorrow. Today you actually need me and I am going to be here for you “

Thaks for another chapter of this wonderful story AllyE. They are all doing wonderfully well and Angie is such a little darling. The first day of school usually affects the parents way more so than the children. It’s good that Bette totally understands just how affected by this day Tina really is and that she also has the perfect cure for the sadness, a long day of making love to her beautiful partner. Can’t wait for them to pick Angie up and she tells them what a wonderful day she has had and the youngsters she has met. Fantastic chapter. Thanks for posting.

Lovely chapter! Wow for the change that Bette went through. I mean she’s still her old self, a control freak, lists-organized woman but now she takes the time to explain and share what she’s doing which is great. Tina’s very lucky to have such a thoughtful partner in her life, they’re both lucky to have each other and Angie. I liked their sweet banters about Uni, Bette like most parents wanting her daughter to follow in her step. I’m looking to their day together, to how they’ll keep their memories afresh about how to make a baby (goofy smile) and especially for the reactions of Kit and Alice when they’ll know about the new baby. Read you very soon.
