    You (Part the Fifty-Fourth)

While Dana had come up with several ideas for possible career moves post-cancer, Alice thought the tennis teaching thing would probably be best. She did agree with Dana that some appearances at the Komen Foundation would be a good idea, but as a permanent, daily thing, she really thought that Dana would be happiest teaching tennis. Whether to kids or adults, it really didn’t matter much in Alice’s mind. She knew tennis was in Dana’s blood, and it would make her miserable to leave it behind forever, even if it was take a fulltime job at the Komen Foundation or any other cancer foundation job.

Watching Dana get set up in the press box, Alice had to admit that even through her nervousness, Dana looked completely at home. As the first few matches started and Dana and Billie Jean started to talk, Dana seemed to fall into the role pretty quickly, and Alice was glad to see it. While it made her smile and gave her a perfect excuse to go to Helena’s, she liked seeing Dana back and happy in her element, however on the outskirts it was, that she decided to stay.

It was worth it. Watching Dana talk tennis with one of her idols was really good to see. In the middle of it all, Alice realized her cell phone was buzzing and opened it to see a text from Helena saying that if se left, she’d be killed later that day. Alice just laughed and put the phone away and kept watching Dana.

When all the matches ended, it was only a little after two since it was just a benefit event. Still, Dana got quite a bit of press when she stepped down out of the press box, and was approached by a bunch of people. Alice waved and gestured toward the parking lot. Dana nodded and turned back to the press people, and Alice headed to the Mini.

When Dana got there twenty minutes later, she was all smiles. “They wanted to do an impromptu interview, so I did. It’ll be on ESPN News tonight.”

“That’s great, baby,” Alice said, leaning over and giving her a bear hug. “I’m so proud of you, Dana. You looked fantastic up there.”

    1. OMG, the return of the white oxford, YAY!!! I am glad to see Dana voicing her wants to Alice. Too bad Alice is still treating her like a victim, rather than a survivor. I’m sure they will work through it though. And there’s nothing like defacing a billboard to bring everyone together, haha!

    2. “Socks decided to tag along, and jumped out of her cat bed to walk directly under Alice’s feet down the hallway.” I can’t stop grinning and love that Socks. On a more serious note, I totally comprehend the fear and concern A had. D was right about seeking help. Unfortunately A was forever so stubborn fixing things her own way. I hope she would change her mind going to stay with H for a few days, instead go seek professional help. I do agree that a short separation would do them some good. D also needed work on her anger and not explode like that each time they ran into a problem. I enjoyed the billboard scene with AlShaDane supporting each other. Thanks MT for another well written chapter which by the way make whole lot of sense.

    3. Excellent chapter, MT! My poor girls… I can see both viewpoints. Dana must feel more alive than she has since leaving the hospital now that she has the possibility of getting back into tennis in some form. It must really hurt to have that negated by Alice’s treatment of her. That being said, she shouldn’t have lit into Alice like she did. Alice has a right to be concerned — especially the day after Dana was so exhausted. I am anxiously waiting to see where you take this. I know they are in good hands. Oh, and the sex? Hot! I hope the oxford makes frequent appearances. Thanks for the update!

    4. Again, you have surpassed yourself with a great chapter. just hope that Alice can get through this feeling and get back to her wonderful self. Loved the billboard!! PPS.

    5. great chap muted!! i enjoyed the drama so entertaining…..i feel like dana is being a little selfish rite now poor al but thats me pps!!!!! can’t get enough :)

    6. Once again a late response, sorry ’bout that. Great chapter. I’m a little torn on whose side I should be. I understand both Dana and Alice. I get each of their argumentations, but I think after this chapter I understand Dana’s point a bit more. Can’t wait for the next chapter!b. ps.: Socks is cute!

    7. I really hope they can get through this, which I am sure they will! I know we need Angst, but I also love happy Danish too! Thank You for the update! Great Stuff!

    8. I really loved this chapter. It’s unrealistic to think that if Dana had survived things would have been blissfully happy with no complications. You have created a story which allows us to see them as real people in the real world struggling with the difficult issues in their way…I love it and want more!!!
