You (Part the Fifty-Fourth)
“Bye kitty,” Alice said distractedly, petting Socks for a second before heading back to the bedroom. Dana came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, and all Alice could do was stare at her. Dana didn’t notice at first, since she was busy flitting around the bedroom looking for socks and shoes and whatever else she needed. When she finally turned toward Alice, she frowned at the intensity of her gaze.
“What? Should I move the scarf? Does it make me look like too much of a cancer patient?” she asked worriedly, touching the silk scarf Helena had bought for her without really thinking about it. She’d wrapped it around her head since she hadn’t been able to get her hair looking like anything halfway decent. “My hair’s just shit today, Al. It’s like, piecing off where it shouldn’t be and making me look like some kinda gothy skater chick. And it’s still pretty short. But I can move the scarf if you think it’ll look better…”
Alice stood up from the bed and hugged her. “No, I think it looks good. Really. And sweetie, you just got done with chemo six months ago, nobody’s going to say or think anything about it. You just don’t have that much hair yet, it’s no big deal. But it’d look good if you moved the scarf too, Dana. It’s totally up to you.”
“Then why were you looking at me all funny?” Dana asked in a small voice.
“It wasn’t anything bad. To be honest I was just perving on you in that white oxford, that’s all. You look good, baby. Really,” Alice said softly. “You ready?”
Dana pulled away from the hug and nodded. “Yeah, I guess I’m as good as I’m going to get.”
Alice smiled. “Don’t be nervous. It’s just Billie Jean; it’s not like you haven’t met her before. It’ll be over before too long anyway, and I’ll be there the whole time…”
“Wait. Why are you going to be there the whole time? It’s only across town, Al. You don’t have to stay,” Dana protested.
“I know, but I want to support my girlfriend’s career. Besides, it’s not like I have anything better to do. And I want to take you for lunch afterward anyway,” Alice said with a shrug.

OMG, the return of the white oxford, YAY!!! I am glad to see Dana voicing her wants to Alice. Too bad Alice is still treating her like a victim, rather than a survivor. I’m sure they will work through it though. And there’s nothing like defacing a billboard to bring everyone together, haha!
“Socks decided to tag along, and jumped out of her cat bed to walk directly under Alice’s feet down the hallway.” I can’t stop grinning and love that Socks. On a more serious note, I totally comprehend the fear and concern A had. D was right about seeking help. Unfortunately A was forever so stubborn fixing things her own way. I hope she would change her mind going to stay with H for a few days, instead go seek professional help. I do agree that a short separation would do them some good. D also needed work on her anger and not explode like that each time they ran into a problem. I enjoyed the billboard scene with AlShaDane supporting each other. Thanks MT for another well written chapter which by the way make whole lot of sense.
Excellent chapter, MT! My poor girls… I can see both viewpoints. Dana must feel more alive than she has since leaving the hospital now that she has the possibility of getting back into tennis in some form. It must really hurt to have that negated by Alice’s treatment of her. That being said, she shouldn’t have lit into Alice like she did. Alice has a right to be concerned — especially the day after Dana was so exhausted. I am anxiously waiting to see where you take this. I know they are in good hands. Oh, and the sex? Hot! I hope the oxford makes frequent appearances. Thanks for the update!
Again, you have surpassed yourself with a great chapter. just hope that Alice can get through this feeling and get back to her wonderful self. Loved the billboard!! PPS.
great chap muted!! i enjoyed the drama so entertaining…..i feel like dana is being a little selfish rite now poor al but thats me pps!!!!! can’t get enough :)
Once again a late response, sorry ’bout that. Great chapter. I’m a little torn on whose side I should be. I understand both Dana and Alice. I get each of their argumentations, but I think after this chapter I understand Dana’s point a bit more. Can’t wait for the next chapter!b. ps.: Socks is cute!
I really hope they can get through this, which I am sure they will! I know we need Angst, but I also love happy Danish too! Thank You for the update! Great Stuff!
I really loved this chapter. It’s unrealistic to think that if Dana had survived things would have been blissfully happy with no complications. You have created a story which allows us to see them as real people in the real world struggling with the difficult issues in their way…I love it and want more!!!
