    You (Part the Fifty-Fourth)

“Really?” Dana asked. She was still smiling, but there was an undercurrent of worry in her voice.

“Of course, really. And I’m not just saying that because I’m biased. You looked happy up there, Dana.”

“I was happy,” Dana said softly, as if it was occurring to her for the first time. “I mean, I am happy, with you and…” she trailed off. “I do miss it. More than I thought I did,” she admitted. Alice reached over and took her hand.

“I know you do, baby. I think maybe you should give some serious thought to teaching tennis at the club. Maybe just part-time for awhile until you’re comfortable, but I think you should look into it,” Alice said gently. Dana’s face lit up.

“Do you really think I could?”

“Why couldn’t you? I mean, you have a ton of experience, you’d be great at it.”

“But I’d have to teach with my left arm…I’m no good at hitting with my left arm, Al.”

“That’s just because you never developed it. Once you get some control on it you’ll be great, okay? I’m not saying it needs to be right away, just sometime in the near future,” she comforted. “You look really beautiful right now. I love how you look when you’re happy, Dana,” she observed softly.

“You sure it’s not your weird fascination with oxford shirts?” Dana asked with a smile as Alice put the car in gear and headed for one of their favorite little pizza places since they were both pretty hungry.

“That’s only a small part of it,” Alice retorted. “Seriously though, you look amazing today, Dana.”

    “Thanks,” Dana replied.

After a light lunch, they headed to Helena’s after a quick stop home just so Alice could shower. Dana took the scarf off and put on some jeans, but kept the shirt on, although Alice laughed and said she’d better be careful about spilling on it. Dana just flipped her off, and they got to Helena’s not long after five.

It was nice to be with the entire group, and the party went very well. The kids all behaved, and went into the room that Helena was fixing up for her kids not long after the homemade pizza Helena had made them for dinner. The adults had cold pasta salad and grilled subs, and Alice and Dana were glad they’d only had a slice of pizza between them earlier. When dinner was over, everyone congregated to the living room and talked about Dana’s commentary, which they’d all watched. She shared her idea about teaching tennis, and everyone thought it was a great idea. They were supportive as they could possibly be, and the whole thing turned into a sort of celebration over Dana having been done with chemo for six months. That, along with Helena and Dylan’s announcement that they were officially back together, made for a really great night. They also tuned into Dana’s interview on ESPN News.

    1. OMG, the return of the white oxford, YAY!!! I am glad to see Dana voicing her wants to Alice. Too bad Alice is still treating her like a victim, rather than a survivor. I’m sure they will work through it though. And there’s nothing like defacing a billboard to bring everyone together, haha!

    2. “Socks decided to tag along, and jumped out of her cat bed to walk directly under Alice’s feet down the hallway.” I can’t stop grinning and love that Socks. On a more serious note, I totally comprehend the fear and concern A had. D was right about seeking help. Unfortunately A was forever so stubborn fixing things her own way. I hope she would change her mind going to stay with H for a few days, instead go seek professional help. I do agree that a short separation would do them some good. D also needed work on her anger and not explode like that each time they ran into a problem. I enjoyed the billboard scene with AlShaDane supporting each other. Thanks MT for another well written chapter which by the way make whole lot of sense.

    3. Excellent chapter, MT! My poor girls… I can see both viewpoints. Dana must feel more alive than she has since leaving the hospital now that she has the possibility of getting back into tennis in some form. It must really hurt to have that negated by Alice’s treatment of her. That being said, she shouldn’t have lit into Alice like she did. Alice has a right to be concerned — especially the day after Dana was so exhausted. I am anxiously waiting to see where you take this. I know they are in good hands. Oh, and the sex? Hot! I hope the oxford makes frequent appearances. Thanks for the update!

    4. Again, you have surpassed yourself with a great chapter. just hope that Alice can get through this feeling and get back to her wonderful self. Loved the billboard!! PPS.

    5. great chap muted!! i enjoyed the drama so entertaining…..i feel like dana is being a little selfish rite now poor al but thats me pps!!!!! can’t get enough :)

    6. Once again a late response, sorry ’bout that. Great chapter. I’m a little torn on whose side I should be. I understand both Dana and Alice. I get each of their argumentations, but I think after this chapter I understand Dana’s point a bit more. Can’t wait for the next chapter!b. ps.: Socks is cute!

    7. I really hope they can get through this, which I am sure they will! I know we need Angst, but I also love happy Danish too! Thank You for the update! Great Stuff!

    8. I really loved this chapter. It’s unrealistic to think that if Dana had survived things would have been blissfully happy with no complications. You have created a story which allows us to see them as real people in the real world struggling with the difficult issues in their way…I love it and want more!!!
