You (Part the Fifty-Fourth)
Alice woke up before Dana did the next morning, which was unusual in itself. The red digital display on the alarm clock was even more unusual, though, since it wasn’t at all like Dana to oversleep. Especially not for something as important as a color commentary with one of her idols. Figuring that she must be having one of those pre-event jitter dreams, Alice shut her eyes and tried to go back to sleep.
A few seconds later, she realized that since the event was Dana’s rather than hers, it didn’t make any sense for her to be having a bad dream about being late for it. She started shaking Dana’s shoulder before she had a chance to open her eyes, and kept shaking even after she had. Dana just mumbled something unintelligible in her general direction and seemed to fall right back to sleep.
“Dane, get up,” Alice said quietly, trying not to scare her. She shook her shoulder again for good measure, though. Dana still didn’t budge. “Dana!” Alice said a little more urgently.
Dana opened one eye sleepily and regarded Alice for all of two seconds. “What?” she mumbled, but she didn’t seem to want to hear the answer. Instead, she glanced toward the alarm clock and concluded that the numbers there were earlier than Alice usually woke up, and were therefore completely annoying to her. In silent protest to them, she rolled away from Alice a little bit and appeared to go right back to sleep.
“Baby, wake up,” Alice persisted.
“No,” Dana muttered, swatting halfheartedly at Alice.
“Your commentary! Dana! Come on!”
Dana digested this slowly in her head, and then her eyes shot open and stared at Alice, completely awake.
“Fuck! Al! It’s quarter to nine!”
Alice nodded. Dana was supposed to be at the event in half an hour to check in and get prepped, but seeing as she’d been doing a lot of research in the past few weeks, Alice was pretty sure Dana could afford to spare a little time and wing it, at least on the players’ stats and injuries and whatnot. Still, it would take some time to get over there, so maybe Dana’s panicked expression was justified.
“Go shower. I’ll get you something to eat and we’ll go as soon as you’re done, okay? It’ll be all right, Dana.”

OMG, the return of the white oxford, YAY!!! I am glad to see Dana voicing her wants to Alice. Too bad Alice is still treating her like a victim, rather than a survivor. I’m sure they will work through it though. And there’s nothing like defacing a billboard to bring everyone together, haha!
“Socks decided to tag along, and jumped out of her cat bed to walk directly under Alice’s feet down the hallway.” I can’t stop grinning and love that Socks. On a more serious note, I totally comprehend the fear and concern A had. D was right about seeking help. Unfortunately A was forever so stubborn fixing things her own way. I hope she would change her mind going to stay with H for a few days, instead go seek professional help. I do agree that a short separation would do them some good. D also needed work on her anger and not explode like that each time they ran into a problem. I enjoyed the billboard scene with AlShaDane supporting each other. Thanks MT for another well written chapter which by the way make whole lot of sense.
Excellent chapter, MT! My poor girls… I can see both viewpoints. Dana must feel more alive than she has since leaving the hospital now that she has the possibility of getting back into tennis in some form. It must really hurt to have that negated by Alice’s treatment of her. That being said, she shouldn’t have lit into Alice like she did. Alice has a right to be concerned — especially the day after Dana was so exhausted. I am anxiously waiting to see where you take this. I know they are in good hands. Oh, and the sex? Hot! I hope the oxford makes frequent appearances. Thanks for the update!
Again, you have surpassed yourself with a great chapter. just hope that Alice can get through this feeling and get back to her wonderful self. Loved the billboard!! PPS.
great chap muted!! i enjoyed the drama so entertaining…..i feel like dana is being a little selfish rite now poor al but thats me pps!!!!! can’t get enough :)
Once again a late response, sorry ’bout that. Great chapter. I’m a little torn on whose side I should be. I understand both Dana and Alice. I get each of their argumentations, but I think after this chapter I understand Dana’s point a bit more. Can’t wait for the next chapter!b. ps.: Socks is cute!
I really hope they can get through this, which I am sure they will! I know we need Angst, but I also love happy Danish too! Thank You for the update! Great Stuff!
I really loved this chapter. It’s unrealistic to think that if Dana had survived things would have been blissfully happy with no complications. You have created a story which allows us to see them as real people in the real world struggling with the difficult issues in their way…I love it and want more!!!
