Survival: Chapter 4
“God, I’m such an idiot,” Alice whispered to herself, wiping a hand over her face. She could feel her jealousies getting the best of her, but she couldn’t seem to control her anxiety about losing Dana. Ever since Lara had left, it had felt as though she and Dana were finally rediscovering their old friendship. And, Alice had begun to realise her connection with Dana was turning into more than just friendship; after their kiss the other night, Alice had started to give in to the idea that they might be able to work things out between them.
But, finding out that Dana had spoken to Lara just before their kiss had tainted all those thoughts. Alice couldn’t help but wonder why Dana had kept her conversation with Lara from her; it reminded her of the way she had felt when Dana and Lara had started becoming friends again a few months ago. Knowing that Alice was getting obsessively jealous about Lara, Dana had started to hide the phone calls she was having with Lara from her in order to avoid arguments. At the time, Dana had denied that she was having an affair with Lara; and, although Alice believed that now, she also knew that her own jealous actions had ultimately helped to push them together.
Now, she felt the same horrible jealousy creeping over her. Her old fears about being kept in the dark about Dana and Lara’s relationship were returning in full force, despite her best efforts to keep them at bay. And, the worst part of it was that she knew she had no right to be upset. She and Dana weren’t together anymore; despite everything that had happened between them recently, they were still just friends. And, in order to preserve that friendship, she knew that she had to find a way to be ok with Lara coming back to L.A.
Suddenly, Alice’s dark thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock at her door. With a groan, she got up from the couch and opened her door to find Shane leaning against the wall outside her apartment.
“Hey,” Shane said, sauntering into Alice’s apartment and sinking heavily into a chair in her living room. “Sorry I didn’t buzz up first. One of your neighbours let me into the building.”

I don’t know how I managed to miss the last couple of updates to this, but I apologize for it and I’m glad you posted this because it made me curious enough to go back and read the entire story again…and what can I say that will possibly do justice to your writing? I don’t think there could be anything good enough. I absolutely adore this story and the direction you’re taking it, and I can’t wait to see what happens. It’s truly addictive, and I mean that in only the best way. Superb job, and you make me more and more jealous with every post you make.
wow, this was absolutely excellent. You manage to get better with each chapter, blue. I can’t wait for another update!
Great update …. glad the girls have sorted themselves out, but they do need to talk!!
excellent. that was really good. i am glad they kind of worked things out.
Yeah they really do need to have that chat!! But loving the story.PPS
Hey! I was missing this story as well.. but it’s so good. I can’t wait for your next update! PPS
This was a good ending to a long day! I absolutely love the depth you’re giving Dana and Alice…and Shane–you’ve nailed them perfectly! You also nailed the problem with microwavable popcorn nicely too- I could practically smell that awful charred scent! As always, well done, and you’ve left me eagerly awaiting your next chapter! (And did I detect from your comment to Min that Lara might just have a love interest too??)
loved the update
Wow I hadnt read this story before so I just read the last few chapters and I love it! You’re a brilliant writer and I cant wait to read more! You’ve written Dana and Alice’s characters perfectly
omg wow sooooooooo good i enjoyed that very much can’t wait for the next one:)
Yay for your update! I really like how you place Shane in the midst of how Alice and Dana connect to communicate. She is indeed wise. And your unfolding of Alice and Dana’s deep bond of friendship is really delicious and thoughtful, via gentle words and gestures. Potential-rama! And of course I’m curious to see where you take our gal Lara, relative to how her inclusion moves the tale along. Please post soon, I’m such a fan-looking forward to the next installment;)
Great Update! Freaking Lara always gets in the way! PPS!
i’m glad they talked. of course i’d love to see them get back together but it’s better if they solve their issues first, at least as friends. i was kinda worried with the chemo but i hope the cancer won’t come back.thanks for the update :] i liked how shane helped them in order to talk.
