    My One Special One – Chapter 28

    “And she will see me again but not today.” John walked to the nearest trash receptacle and tossed his coffee cup in; then turned and walked down 15th Street.  He rubbed his throbbing forehead all the way back to the hotel.

    * * *

    When Tina and Steve got to the courtroom, Sheriff Bob was standing outside.

    “You two might be happy today or perhaps not.” Bob tilted his head towards the courtroom.  “Go ahead, the judge’s law clerk is inside.”

    “Why?  What’s going on?” Tina asked.

    “Old Charlie is sick.  First time since he’s been on the bench.  Said that he’d be in this afternoon.”

    “What? Damn it.”

    Steve and Tina entered the courtroom and saw Ray, the judge’s law clerk talking with Pete Roteck.  Both men turned as they saw the two DA’s walk towards them.

    “The Judge is ill.  The jury is going to be excused until after lunch.  He said he’ll be in then to announce his decision on the motion.”

    Tina turned away and went to the DA’s table.  “If I didn’t know better, I think the bastard did this on purpose.  That man is never ill…or at least always shows up.  Now, we’re going to be here into the night by the time this case gets to the jury.”

    “Or maybe he won’t show up at all and everything gets put over until Monday.” Steve said.  “I know, I know.  The case won’t be over but you’ve got your summation ready.  You’d basically have the weekend free.  You sum up, Pete sums up, Judge’s charge and then hopefully the jury will reach a verdict before the sun goes down on Monday.   And remember, Kaplan told you you’d have a few days off after this one.”

    Tina remembered Bill Kaplan, the head of their Unit, telling her that after this case was done, she’d have a few days off to decompress.  She had been working nonstop with jury trials back to back for several months now.

    “Yeah, there is that.  I just wanted this over with today.  Morris still has to give his decision.  Maybe he’ll at least show up for that this afternoon and then perhaps be kind and opt for summations and charge on Monday.”

    1. I knew Sam was a woman…I was wondering where this story went to. If I was Tina I would have someone tailing me at all times in case that nut job tried to do anything.

    2. Tina’s coming out to her mother brought back all of Ann’s dreams of her own female lover. Ann is lucky that Sam is still very much in love with her. Hopefully Ann will get a chance to help Tina out with getting rid of John once an for all. This trail needs to end soon so that Bette and Tina can begin to live without the fear of being hurt of killed. They need that TLC to strengthen their love for one another.
