    My One Special One – Chapter 28

    “Did you have something to say to me, Ray?”

    “Nah, nothing.  See you back here at two if I don’t hear from the judge sooner. You, too, Pete.”   Pete had remained at counsel table reading the Legal Intelligencer that someone had left.    He heard his name and looked up.

    “Yep, I’ll be out of here, too.  I’ll be back at two if I don’t hear from you.” Pete was out of the courtroom before Tina and Steve.

    As they exited the courtroom Bob saw them.   “So you won’t be leaving me so soon, eh?”

    “Now, you know it’s not you, Bob.  We were hoping this case would go to the jury today but I have a feeling that’s not going to happen.  Hey, do you ever remember Morris being out sick?”

    “Nope.  But I guess there’s a first time for everything…even him.  You may as well enjoy the downtime because it may be the next millennium before it happens again.”

    “Oh, God,” Steve laughed, “I wonder if “Shitty” Hall will still be standing in the next millennium.

    “Long after we’ve turned to dust this place will still be here, but I think on the next go round I just may run away and join the circus…well, wait, come to think of it, that might just be similar to what we’re doing now.”

    “Ain’t that the truth.  Hey, at least we’re still laughing, Tina.”

    Sheriff Bob watched the two young DA’s walk down the hall to the elevators.

    * * *

    When Tina got to her office she called Bette.

    “Hey, there.  Is the jury out already?  It’s pretty early.”  Bette asked, surprised by the call.

    “No, the judge – I can’t freakin’ believe it – is sick so we’re all on hold until this afternoon.”  Tina sounded exasperated.  “If he comes in this afternoon, I’ll be lucky if I’m home by midnight.”

    “All right.  Look, let’s take the worse case scenario.  Sounds like it could be two things.  A late night tonight and then it’s over.  Or if he doesn’t show up, it will be over on Monday, right?  So at the most it will be delayed forty-eight hours – and maybe less if the jury isn’t out that long.  Baby, it will be over and we’ll go away for a few days.  They’re still going to let you have some time off after this case, right?  You’ve been under a lot of pressure lately, honey, with this case and John.   We’ll take some time away, just you and me, getting reacquainted again away from all the madness.  This place can live without me for a few days. Now, doesn’t that sound like something to look forward to…just you and me…alone, no alarm clocks…cozy dinners…um?”

    1. I knew Sam was a woman…I was wondering where this story went to. If I was Tina I would have someone tailing me at all times in case that nut job tried to do anything.

    2. Tina’s coming out to her mother brought back all of Ann’s dreams of her own female lover. Ann is lucky that Sam is still very much in love with her. Hopefully Ann will get a chance to help Tina out with getting rid of John once an for all. This trail needs to end soon so that Bette and Tina can begin to live without the fear of being hurt of killed. They need that TLC to strengthen their love for one another.
