Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty Six (a HYD-inspired fic)

“No..” Bette laughed a little. “But I do have some of the things my mom left behind.” She wiggled her eyebrows up and down. Her father might have her written off of his will come Monday, but her mother certainly did not. She didn’t know just how much Maxine Porter left behind for her only child, but she was told that it was big. Oh, she inherited all of her mother’s jewelries too. That alone was worth millions. “So guys, don’t worry. If push comes to shove, I have my mother’s fortune as a fall back.” She smiled at her friends.

“Fall back?” Alice repeated incredulously. “Aren’t you going to use your mom’s money right away?” She looked at Bette in confusion. Shane and Sam shared the same look as well.

“Nope.” Bette shook her head. “How will I be able to prove to my dad that he was wrong? That I can live outside the security of our wealth?” She looked at her friends pointedly. “I need to show him that not everything revolves around money. That what I have with Kennard is enough to make me happy.” She said in a voice full of determination. She needed to make it on her own. It would be a hard, up-hill battle but it was one she was willing to take. Bette Porter was a force to be reckoned with once she gets her mind set into something. Hopefully, the person she would be fighting for would come to her senses pretty soon. She couldn’t do this without Tina.

“You really want to rough it?” Shane looked at Bette questioningly. She understood what her friend was trying to say, and she got the point that Bette wanted to prove. But she still couldn’t wrap her mind around the thought of Bette Porter living the simple life. It was a little unsettling to think about.

“Yeah.” Bette shrugged. “How hard can it be?” The sides of her lips twitched as she uttered those words. She looked at the faces of her friends and bit the insides of her cheeks. F4, united as ever, shared the same constipated looks on their faces.

“Its Jenny Schecter and Tina Kennard. We’re here to see Bette Porter.” Jenny handed over her driver’s license and Tina’s school ID to the security guard stationed at the tall gates of the Porter estate.

    2. Wow! What an awesome letter by Tina. She clarified her feelings for Bette while at the same time telling her that she needs to stop walking away when it is convenient for her. I loved the drama! Can’t wait for more!

    3. Bette’s willingness to give it all up to be with Tina is amazing, but I see Tina’s fears as something they do need to face if they are going to be successful thwarting the evil Melvin.

    4. a story is not a story without a little drama, but blimey this story has got some,Bette should just go and talk to Tina because there is alot of making up to do ;-).loved the last couple of chapters PPS
