Just The Girl – Chapter Twenty Six (a HYD-inspired fic)

“Guys,” Bette smiled as she looked at her quiet and slightly disgruntled friends sitting around her in Sam’s patio. “Please don’t think that I don’t appreciate what you guys have done.” She bit her lower lip as tears threatened to fall once more. Damn, she was so emotional today. “This..” She pointed to the ten million dollar check in front of Alice. “This..” She nodded to the briefcase overflowing with cold hard cash by Shane’s feet. “And this..” She tapped the leather case containing five credit cards resting near Sam’s hand. “Are just so overwhelming. I can’t thank you guys enough for doing this for me.” She shook her head and smiled as she thought about how lucky she was to have such great friends. Even with billions of dollars in her bank account, it was the presence of these three stooges that truly enriched her life. She didn’t deserve them, given how much abuse the three had received from her during the past few years. Money could never buy love and loyalty like this.

“Porter..” Alice sighed exasperatedly. “You could show us how thankful you are by accepting our gifts.” She leaned forward against the table and clasped her hands together. “Please, take them. I’m begging you.” She pleaded with their stubborn leader.

“I agree with Al.” Shane finally spoke up after sitting in silence during the entire time that they presented Bette their humble offerings. “Please take them. It will make things easier for you.” She appealed to the brunette beside her.

“Bette.” Sam interjected as she reached for Bette’s hand. “Set aside your pride. Unless you can give me a valid excuse for refusing our money, I won’t take no for an answer.” She stated firmly, yet gently. Bette’s gigantic Porter pride might be holding her best friend back, but she would have none of it. She knew that Bette would choose Tina over her fortune, and so she wanted – and needed – her best friend to take their money to set their minds at ease. They just couldn’t sit back and watch their leader struggle when they had it in their power to help.

“Yeah.” Alice nodded her head in agreement. “Do you have twenty million dollars stashed inside a sock somewhere?” She lifted an eyebrow.

    2. Wow! What an awesome letter by Tina. She clarified her feelings for Bette while at the same time telling her that she needs to stop walking away when it is convenient for her. I loved the drama! Can’t wait for more!

    3. Bette’s willingness to give it all up to be with Tina is amazing, but I see Tina’s fears as something they do need to face if they are going to be successful thwarting the evil Melvin.
