Chapter XXIX – Empire State of Mind – Tho’ much is taken, much abides
She continued her slow walk toward the welcome desk, intending to ask for directions to the chapel, head still turned in the direction of the ER. She was about to flip her aviator-style sunglasses from her nose when the double-doors burst open again.
Tina!
Miller whipped her head around, kept the sunglasses on, and quick-walked around the welcome desk, heading to the elevator bank. She had not expected to bump into Tina in this part of the hospital, and had understood from Jackson’s quick update about those who’d been rushed to the hospital that the blonde was being examined.
Tina was in a wheelchair, and a nurse or doctor was pushing her while holding up the drip bag that was connected through a tube to one of the blonde’s arms. Tina had been looking up, neck turned toward the one pushing her, apparently in the middle of a conversation.
Miller got to the elevators and quickly scanned the directory while jabbing on the ”up” button, hoping against hope that one would make it down before Tina was wheeled into the elevator area. After what felt like eternity, ”Ping!” the elevator bell sounded behind Miller. She turned around quickly and hopped into it, jabbing on the ”closed door” sign to force it to close as she randomly hit a floor number. She figured on getting off at any floor and then ask for directions to the chapel from the nearest nurse’ station in that floor. Just as the elevator door was inches from closing she heard a voice call out ”hold the elevator please!”
For a split second Miller hesitated, and by the time she hit the ”open door” button, the elevator door had almost closed. ”Sorry!” she called out as the elevator door whooshed shut, feeling awful about having hesitated. The unexpected sight of Tina in the lobby area had been enough to rattle her and, for the second time that day, she’d lost her focus on the task at hand because she’d been caught off-guard by the appearance of the blonde.
She blew out a breath as she arrived at the floor whose number she’d punched. ”Get a grip! You’re a pro, used to be one of the best! Get it in gear already!” she muttered to herself as she fast walked to the nurse’ station.

What a mess, that whole sniper attack, thank god that Diana seems to survive it.

Great update. I can sense Miller is going to be trouble for Bette and Tina. In your next update, I hope you answer a question I have about Miller. If Tina originally knew Miller as Georgina Keller, a stock-broker in London, during her university years, how did TIna recognize her as “Cam Miller” in the hospital? I sense another sub-story there.
You’re right! (Minx) Answers to these and other ?s shortly when I post the last chapter in a way that I hope puts a neat bow around the whole package.
Happy New Year and welcome back. As always I am intrigued by your storybook. I am glad to see that 15 years later Bette and Tina still carry the fire of love. I know that when they had taken on the welfare of the gold and it would take a toll on them, their family and friends. Did it cost them their child? You only mentioned Angelica in the update. Poor Jackson never seemed to recover. I know that our heroines understood the risk of being guardians but did they realize the heavy cost? Can’t wait for the next update. Thank for continuing to entertain us. We are very grateful that you share your talent with us .
