Chapter XXIX – Empire State of Mind – Tho’ much is taken, much abides

“Either one of them hurt?!” the lead tech shouted as she kneeled next to the brunette.
“We were worried up until a second ago,” one of the techs answered. “They weren’t responding to questions and were covered in blood.”
“I-I…think I’m okay,” the blonded moaned.
“Said she’s pregnant,” one of the techs said quickly.
“Vitals?” the lead tech asked looking around, as she felt for the neck of the brunette even as one of the other techs was trying to lift the toned arm wrapped around the blonde. She knew her colleagues would have checked already, but she wanted to feel how strong the pulse of the brunette was.
The woman’s pulse was surprisingly even and steady and she was actively resisting the attempts of the techs to lift her arm and leg from their protective positions around the blonde.
“The blonde is alert, vitals are ok. She’s covered in blood but we couldn’t find any entry wounds,” one tech answered. “We think her fall was cushioned by the brunette. The blonde was almost lying down on the brunette, in a fetal position, when we got here. The man who’d absorbed several shots was lying on top of them. So it must be his blood that’s covered them.”
“Can we check on the baby even from here?” the lead tech asked. Before her colleagues answered her, she told the brunette firmly but as gently as she could, “Lady we need to examine your friend, okay? Can you please release her and allow us to examine her?”
After a moment’s hesitation, she heard the brunette tell the blonde, “I’m letting you go, baby.”
“Don’t leave me, Bette,” the blonde answered, still clutching at the brunette’s arm.
“I won’t, honey,” Bette answered. “I’ll be right here. Next to you. But they need to look at you. And I need to let you go.”
“We need to look at you, too… Bette, is it?” the lead tech interrupted them.
Bette didn’t respond to her immediately. She gave Tina a kiss and then slowly extracted her arm from Tina’s desperate embrace.
“You can examine me here, right?” she asked the lead tech, brushing her hair away from her face as two techs gently pushed Tina onto her back and one nudged the blonde’s shirt up to expose her stomach.
The lead tech gave Bette a reassuring smile. “Yeah, of course.” Damn, she’s beautiful!

Adrenaline in this story, my God was a reading breathtaking,
My heart sank as I thought Diana would succumbed to death
but fortunately she sobreviveu.Tenho also say that the beginning of
story 15 years later was Great! and then coming back to event
the shooting, phew !! was a sensational chapter.
And congratulations, you wrote this scene NC: 17 Tina and Bette with a
mastery.

Amazing beginning with the look in the future, but you or rather Tina mentioned only Angelica, where is the other child of them? ! Maybe i am too fast and will you get into that in the next chapter.
What a mess, that whole sniper attack, thank god that Diana seems to survive it.

Great update. I can sense Miller is going to be trouble for Bette and Tina. In your next update, I hope you answer a question I have about Miller. If Tina originally knew Miller as Georgina Keller, a stock-broker in London, during her university years, how did TIna recognize her as “Cam Miller” in the hospital? I sense another sub-story there.

Happy New Year and welcome back. As always I am intrigued by your storybook. I am glad to see that 15 years later Bette and Tina still carry the fire of love. I know that when they had taken on the welfare of the gold and it would take a toll on them, their family and friends. Did it cost them their child? You only mentioned Angelica in the update. Poor Jackson never seemed to recover. I know that our heroines understood the risk of being guardians but did they realize the heavy cost? Can’t wait for the next update. Thank for continuing to entertain us. We are very grateful that you share your talent with us .
