INT. – THE GARAGE – NIGHT
[Jenny busily types. Nick goes to the window and looks outside.]
Nick: Everybody’s a liar, dear. Look at that.
[Jenny stops and looks over to what he’s looking at.]
Nick: She’s about to tell her lover something patently untrue.
[Jenny leans over to see.]
EXT. – BETTE & TINA’S HOUSE – BACKYARD – NIGHT
[Bette and Tina are standing together. Bette has her arms around Tina. Tina is playing with Bette’s hair.]
Tina: I just want you to know that whatever had happened tonight in that board meeting, we would have been fine.
INT. – THE GARAGE – NIGHT
Nick: Look at their gestures. See how they touch each other too intimately.
EXT. – BETTE & TINA’S HOUSE – BACKYARD – NIGHT
[Lara and Dana swim together.]
Nick: (voice over) How they avert their eyes and cover their mouths.
Jenny/Nick: (voice over) They lick their teeth.
[Lenore and Shane stand in a dark corner together, talking. Shane puts a hand to her chin, listening to Lenore.]
Jenny/Nick: (voice over) And hold their chins.
INT. – THE GARAGE – NIGHT
Jenny/Nick: (voice over) They embellish their stories with far too much detail.
INT. – BETTE & TINA’S HOUSE – NIGHT
[Everyone is inside, sitting around. Lenore is telling a story.]
Lenore: Anyway, I was shooting this story with Truffaut and Anouk Aim้e, and I had this big scene with her lover in the film, and of course that day Anouk shows up on the set. But I don’t care, because I know exactly what I’m gonna do with the scene, and at the end of the scene, I have my big closeup, and of course everything happens, my god, the emotion comes up, I chase it away, I bring it back, it’s rich, it’s full, it’s subtle. And at the end of the take, Truffaut turns to Anouk and says, “Zat is ze way you should act.”
Kit: Oh! (laughs) Can you imagine?
[Everybody smiles and laughs a little.]
INT. – THE GARAGE – NIGHT
[Jenny is writing. The light fades away and the smoke clears. It’s just Jenny and her laptop, now. She is totally absorbed in her work.]
INT. – TIM & JENNY’S HOUSE – NIGHT
[Tim walks through the house, to the back door. He sees Jenny in the garage.]
INT. – THE GARAGE – NIGHT
[Jenny is completely focused as she writes. We see Tim through the window, coming over to the garage door. Jenny nods as she types.]
[Tim stands at the door and looks through the window at her. She’s still working, totally into it. He quietly opens the door.]
Tim: Working?
Jenny: Yeah. Nick was such a pompous ass. He ripped me to shreds.
Tim: I don’t like the sound of that.
Jenny: (quietly) No, it’s – it’s good. It’s good. I feel like… I’m on to something.
Tim: (closing door) Okay. Well, I’ll, uh (clears throat), leave you to it.
Jenny: Tim?
[Tim keeps the door open.]
Jenny: (sincerely) Can you stay here with me?
[After a moment, Tim comes inside and closes the door. He walks over to her and kneels before her. He brushes her hair out of her face, and gently touches her cheeks. She smiles at him. They hug.]
