    You (Part the Fifty-Fourth)

“Dammit, I can’t believe I’m gonna be late. I mean, this is a really important thing, Alice! And Billie Jean King is one of my idols. I’m gonna look so bad,” Dana mumbled.

“Well, laying here bitching about it isn’t going to help anything. Just go shower, sweetie. I tell ya what, I’ll call Billie Jean and let her know you’ll be a little bit late. You’ll be fine; you’re not even supposed to be on camera until ten,” Alice soothed. Dana sighed and shook her head, looking miserable.

“Hey, it’ll be okay, Dane,” Alice insisted, touching Dana’s face. Dana shut her eyes and moved into the touch before she got out of bed hastily and took the garment bag off the back of the door. Alice watched her as she went into the bathroom. She knew it probably had more to do with Dana’s disgust over being late than any increased confidence level, but she was happy that Dana was walking around naked without feeling the need to cover herself. Still, it was something, since Dana was usually so deathly afraid of being seen naked since her surgery, even around Alice.

Shaking her head to clear it since she needed to get moving, Alice got out of bed and put on some jeans and t-shirt. On her way to the kitchen, Socks decided to tag along, and jumped out of her cat bed to walk directly under Alice’s feet down the hallway. “Hey! That’s tricky, kitty. You just want a ride. It’s a good thing for you that I’m in a hurry,” Alice told her good naturedly as she picked the kitten up. “You hungry?” she asked. Socks mewed in response. “Okay. Breakfast time.” Arriving in the kitchen, she set Socks down by her food bowl and got the kitten chow out of the cupboard. “You have to move so I can pour it, ya little weirdo,” she chastised when Socks seemed to hover over the food bowl. Finally managing to get the food into the bowl, Alice sighed and put the kitten chow away.

“I know I don’t have time to make breakfast for Dana, so what do you think? Cereal bar and apple juice? You think that’ll work?” Socks didn’t respond, but Alice kept talking to her anyway. “I’ll take her to lunch after the thing anyway. Besides, we’re going to Helena’s for her dinner party, so she won’t starve,” she rambled in the kitten’s general direction as she got two apple juices and a cereal bar. She was closing the fridge door when she heard the distinctive sound of the pipes squeaking, signaling that Dana had shut off the shower.

    1. OMG, the return of the white oxford, YAY!!! I am glad to see Dana voicing her wants to Alice. Too bad Alice is still treating her like a victim, rather than a survivor. I’m sure they will work through it though. And there’s nothing like defacing a billboard to bring everyone together, haha!

    2. “Socks decided to tag along, and jumped out of her cat bed to walk directly under Alice’s feet down the hallway.” I can’t stop grinning and love that Socks. On a more serious note, I totally comprehend the fear and concern A had. D was right about seeking help. Unfortunately A was forever so stubborn fixing things her own way. I hope she would change her mind going to stay with H for a few days, instead go seek professional help. I do agree that a short separation would do them some good. D also needed work on her anger and not explode like that each time they ran into a problem. I enjoyed the billboard scene with AlShaDane supporting each other. Thanks MT for another well written chapter which by the way make whole lot of sense.

    3. Excellent chapter, MT! My poor girls… I can see both viewpoints. Dana must feel more alive than she has since leaving the hospital now that she has the possibility of getting back into tennis in some form. It must really hurt to have that negated by Alice’s treatment of her. That being said, she shouldn’t have lit into Alice like she did. Alice has a right to be concerned — especially the day after Dana was so exhausted. I am anxiously waiting to see where you take this. I know they are in good hands. Oh, and the sex? Hot! I hope the oxford makes frequent appearances. Thanks for the update!

    4. Again, you have surpassed yourself with a great chapter. just hope that Alice can get through this feeling and get back to her wonderful self. Loved the billboard!! PPS.

    5. great chap muted!! i enjoyed the drama so entertaining…..i feel like dana is being a little selfish rite now poor al but thats me pps!!!!! can’t get enough :)

    6. Once again a late response, sorry ’bout that. Great chapter. I’m a little torn on whose side I should be. I understand both Dana and Alice. I get each of their argumentations, but I think after this chapter I understand Dana’s point a bit more. Can’t wait for the next chapter!b. ps.: Socks is cute!

    7. I really hope they can get through this, which I am sure they will! I know we need Angst, but I also love happy Danish too! Thank You for the update! Great Stuff!

    8. I really loved this chapter. It’s unrealistic to think that if Dana had survived things would have been blissfully happy with no complications. You have created a story which allows us to see them as real people in the real world struggling with the difficult issues in their way…I love it and want more!!!
