    Window of Opportunity ch. 51

    Bette

Things in our lives are calming down and we are living as a family. Tina’s parents have returned to NC and although they still have work to do, they are a real part of our family. They didn’t make any efforts to be what they weren’t because who they were was enough. They love Angie and she them. They included me in all plans and the expectation was that I would be there because I was with Tina. It wasn’t just an afterthought or a feeling of obligation to include me. It felt good that Tina was finally having what she had dreamed of for so many years.

Tina and I have had some talks about Jodi. There is an upcoming show and she sent some pictures of her work for me to consider. They were incredible but that would mean working with her and I wasn’t sure that would be the best idea with my relationship with Tina still being new. When I talked about it with James, he offered to be the liaison if needed allowing me no contact with Jodi until the actual show. Tina was supportive of me including her works if it would make the show more successful. I had no doubts that it would but I still felt uncomfortable with the idea.  I had other people that I could include and decided to go that route instead of opening up a can of worms that didn’t need to be opened. I sent Jodi a short note congratulating her on her new pieces and telling her how wonderful I thought that they were. I told her that the show was going in a different direction and couldn’t accommodate her pieces but I would make sure to include at least some in the next show. By that time, in my mind, there would be a more solid foundation with Tina and I and I wouldn’t need to be as apprehensive about Jodi being in my life in some way. When I told Tina my decision she was happy that I was willing to wait awhile. Although she was ok with the show including Jodi’s work, she too felt that waiting a little while may be better for us.

We both continued to see Dan and Suzanne separately and occasionally Suzanne together. We were at a good place in our relationship but we felt the need to have someone objective to help us deal with some of the issues that we still needed to resolve. One of those issues was still trust. We had come so far and both tried really hard in that area. I was still being accountable to Tina about my schedule and if she was unsure she asked questions. One of the most difficult things was going out in public. People who had not heard that we were back together still had no hesitation to approach me and ask me to dance or hand me their phone number. Tina never said anything but the look on her face was always one of sad contemplation. When we talked she told me that even not trying to do anything wrong, temptation was thrown in my face so often that she would get nervous. She and Dan worked on those insecurities while Suzanne and I worked on my ability to directly tell people so they would stop. It wasn’t easy but we were making it.

    7. Fantastic chapter and so happy to see this post, I loved every word of it.You are doing such a wonderful job writing this story and everything is going so well. A new baby, a wedding, and adding on to the house all at the same time. But they have talked about it and will continue to do so it should be alright for them. Those kinds of things just tend to be a tad bit stressful.
