    Window of Opportunity ch. 51

I shared with her the miscarriage and Bette’s affair. I was afraid to tell her because I didn’t want her opinion of Bette to change. It was still such a new relationship for them. She assured me not having been there, she was not going to pass judgment. I also told her that the affair, although Bette acted upon it, was something that I did little to make not happen. She told me that she suffered a miscarriage after I was born and understood how easy it was to shut down. She believed the only reason she didn’t was because I needed her to care for me. I had never known that there was a time that they were trying to have another child. That too was something we cried together over. Our losses. As much as Daddy and Bette were supportive, they never felt the actual pain and it was wonderful sharing that with Mom.

As I got more and more comfortable with them, I started to make some decisions about Luke. He was my father and for that I would always be thankful but he wasn’t my dad. My dad was Sam and as much as the shock initially hurt and surprised me, that didn’t change. I called Luke and we talked. He seemed like a nice man. He was interested in all that had happened in my life. He told me his version of what happened with him, Mom and Dad. We cried for the time we didn’t have but we both expressed that it was too late to become father and daughter. He knew that Daddy had taken on that responsibility and done well. We talked about family health issues that could possibly affect Angie or me. I emailed him pictures of Bette, Angie and I and he sent pictures of him and his partner. We started a dialogue and promised to meet up in the future but there were no expectations of us having anything more than a friendship. He knew of Bette and was excited that I was somehow in the art world since it was so important to him. He sent a gift of one of his pictures that I think Bette is still salivating about. We placed it in the foyer and it is nice to know that I have a part of him in our home. Mom and I talked about my not needing to have him an inclusive part of my life. She didn’t want me not to because of them but the reality was I was doing it for me. I knew and was at peace with it.

    7. Fantastic chapter and so happy to see this post, I loved every word of it.You are doing such a wonderful job writing this story and everything is going so well. A new baby, a wedding, and adding on to the house all at the same time. But they have talked about it and will continue to do so it should be alright for them. Those kinds of things just tend to be a tad bit stressful.
