Where You Go There You Are

It strikes Bette that she’s being very self centered.  After all she’s not the principle in this drama, Angelica is.  If she were in Tina’s place it wouldn’t matter where the information came from just so long as she discovered something about her daughter.  “Tina must be going out of her mind with worry.” Bette comments out loud to herself.

This process was helping Bette work through her thoughts almost getting her to a place where she could craft the right message to verbalize to Tina.  This mind exercise was rewarding to her but just as her goal was within reach she is interrupted by a crashing of metal of the side gate.

Hearing the noise she turns to see who is making such a racket.  Rising from her lounge chair Bette gets up for a better view, Bette sees Alice sprinting through the gate at a speed that is unusual for Alice.

“Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God” Alice says over and over again in rapid fire fashion while she races up to Bette, arms extended intent on clutching Bette in her embrace.

Bewildered at Alice’s behavior, Bette just stands there as Alice moves up into her.  Bette feels Alice crash into her body and hugs her in a full body clinch while she burying her head in Bette’s chest.  Still mumbling “Oh my God” Alice is now also adding “Don’t give up.  We will fight this”

Bette’s staggered by Alice both physically and emotionally.  This wasn’t the reaction she was expecting from Alice bewildered she’s not sure what is going on.  “Uh Alice, honey” Bette begins softly while pulling her head back to get a look at Alice’s face.   It appears that she has tears streaking down her face leaving track from her crying.  Now Bette’s confusion is laced with worry.  “Alice…. Alice honey what’s going on?”

Alice doesn’t seem to hear any of Bette’s words, she remains gripping Bette tight, closing any space between them.  The physical act reflecting her emotional desire to hold onto Bette forever.  Her emotions getting the best of her, she will not take any breaks from her stream of words.  When Bette sees that she can’t make an impact with Alice she knows from experience that once Alice is in one of these states there was nothing else to do but wait her out.  This streak of emotion needs to run its course before Alice will come up for air.  Once the initial wave of emotion has passed, Alice will engage her ears enough for Bette to get through to her.  So it is that the two friends stand on the patio by the pool in the waning evening light, embracing each other like the world was about to come to an end.

    1. Glad that Bette is so calm about this and is not over reacting. Hopefully Alice will not do something that will spook Angelica and make her run away again. Alice is usuallt a time bomb waiting for a place to go off and this would be the wrong time for that to happen. Hopefully Alice will give Bette the number so Tina’s mind will be at rest. Great chapter. PPS

    2. It’s quite the sticky situation all around. Everybody is going to be careful how they handle Angelica and at the same time seem forced or she’ll think something’s up. Bette and Tina will have to be diplomatic with each other, too, once they get in contact.

    3. A mature Bette who would have thought it – only you and certainly not IC. Thank you for returning with this story and for giving us a Bette to admire without cringing.

    4. In 17 yrs Bette has become so calm and much more mature. Tina will love this new Bette. She is easy going and I love how she handle Alice. This is not Bettes fault,I wonder if Angie will be angry with Tina for keeping her away from Bette all these yrs. Angie has missed so much for not knowing Bette. thanks

    5. Well look who the cat dragged in! So good to see a post in your name mate! Ain’t it funny how easy it is to get back into a story and remember everything from a year ago! Looking forward to the meeting of B&T, please don’t say its going to be at least another 65 chapters till that happens! x

    6. Hey JWet, Just love the mature and protective side of Bette’s persona. Everything she has been through with her illness has made her appreciate life and all its multiple facets. Bette realizes Tina’s angst and distress at her daughter’s disappearance and is know doing all htat she can to save Tina more hurt. There is stil such a connection between Bette and Tina that they protect each other even after all this time has pasted. Theirs truly is a love forged in heaven. Shane was great with Angelica, gently teaing out the truth without pushing too far. Then Alice. Oh what levity and brightness she beings to this tale. Her concern for Bette’s health was so sweet and honest. The tale has completely hooked and bedazzled me. Thank you so much dear friend. Life is a wonderful journey. Your Loyal Fan and Friend. Take care.

    7. So glad Bette is trying to think clearly and think about what Tina is going through not knowing where Angie is. Their will be time later for the rest. Alice cracks me up, thinking Bette was dying.
