The Night Has Been Unkind – Short Story
Bette could feel Tina’s soft hair tickle her cheek, but she basked in everything the moment had to offer. However fleeting, she would enjoy this.
Thrilled with all of the familiar sensations, and the feel of Bette’s lips on her own, Tina forced herself to pull away. She opened her eyes to Bette’s, much like her reaction to their very first kiss; this time, with more emotions surrounding it. "Because I love you too," she answered honestly, her forehead resting against Bette’s. It was a beautiful moment.
"You do?" Bette breathed, her voice so quiet but filled with sudden excitement. She was so exhausted it didn’t sound like much, but Tina knew the exact translation. She knew Bette so well. "T …"
"I’m taking you inside," Tina whispered, slowly getting to her feet and helping Bette up as well. She needed to be logical, because she was sure Bette had already lost it. "Yeah, come on,” she whispered as Bette stood, “… Up we go."
Bette was thankful for the support, having slung her arm over Tina’s shoulders. "Where are you taking me?"
"To bed," Tina answered, "You need sleep, Bette. You’re not well."
Seemingly unable to cry anymore, Bette stepped along with Tina to her bedroom, plopping down where Tina put her. She looked up to the blond with confusion and wonderment in her eyes. Nothing was clear, but she was so much happier in Tina’s presence. She didn’t dare taint the moment with questions.
"Kiss me again," Tina said softly, stepping in between Bette’s legs and leaning her head down to lock lips once again, although it was more tender than a usual kiss. She made herself pull away again when Bette held her hips. "I’m sorry. Bette … I want to sleep. Can we just sleep?"
Bette nodded, for once believing in her own ability to sleep. She couldn’t seem to take her eyes off of Tina, her eyes still teary. "Yes please." A very small smile showed.
They locked eyes and everything grew silent. This was the moment. Bette closed her sore eyes to Tina’s touch, fingers running along her cheek again, tucking the hair behind her ear. Bette pulled her close, pressing the side of her face to Tina’s stomach. She was so warm. Just like Bette had remembered.
When they finally released each other, they got into bed together, face to face, just looking at each other. There was so much to say and no words to say them with. They fell asleep in that silence, a peaceful calmness washing over them in rest.
As Bette slipped into another reverie, familiar images appeared.
When the stars have all burnt out
You’ll still be burning so … bright.
So sweet she was, in the light bathing her sensual body. Such soft blond hair cascading down over her back, a woman dancing all alone. Darkness seemed to surround her, but couldn’t reach her. She turned, her eyes catching the small portion of light falling over her. Of course the goddess was Tina. She was so perfect.
"Love me," Bette asked, her voice fragile, yet echoing through the space between them.
Tina, beautiful Tina, smiled. "I do."
Bette took sure steps over, something slowing her own actions but unable to stop them. She touched Tina’s cheek as she loved to do, the radiant energy glowing from her own arm now, taking her in. She stepped in closer, brushing her lips over Tina’s. This was turning out to be the best dream she could remember.
They both lifted from the ground, nothing else as important as the glow from their bodies, and the love that they found in each other’s embrace. They seemed to be immersed in water, turning over each other, losing themselves. Bette wasn’t sure where Tina began and where she ended. It didn’t matter anymore.
It was complete euphoria.
Still asleep in the silence of Tina’s room, Bette had curled up next to her – Tina’s arms wrapped instinctively around her. They fit so perfectly together, like pieces of a puzzle. Even in sleep they were drawn together.
Upon waking in each other’s arms, they would talk and work through their problems. It wouldn’t be easy, but Bette was thankful the darkness of night was far behind.
Cast me gently … into morning
For the night has been unkind.

Beautiful! If only the show had done this storyline….Thank you for sharing!
That hurt. Good job.
You are so very talented and adept at capturing deep emotions. Thank you
Wow!
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for this story and please give yourself many many pats :) Wonderful.
So beautiful I had to go back and read it again. Have you seen this Grind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJyPEiR1RTc. It’s a Tibette tribute video made by a good friend of mine with this very same song! Thank you for this, just gorgeous.
I love the way you wrote this. You can really feel their pain. I’m so glad your brought them back together in the end…so sweet.
I swear I’m crying like Bette was while writing this. GOD. You are sooo amazing. You can write such insanely mercurial fics and yet at times you just sweep us away by such intense emotional fics like this. I’m utterly blown away by all the raw emotion shown in this one and you’re right, the song was brilliant and so apt. Are you planning to continue this one? Cos’ I think it can go further, if not, just continue doing what you’re doing. It’s a winning formula! =)) Thanks for this GrindRight, (although I’ll probably have to explain to my mom why I’m bawling my eyes out), PPVS! =))
wonderful !!
respect.
this is so sad but beautiful, bettes love for tine is so deep and tina..she cant help herself.plssssssssssss give us a little moreim crying and i dont know why…gosh if my gf will ever leave me i will be just like bette..
Wow Grind – that was beautiful, heartbreaking, sad, and yet hopeful… But there is so much more to this – I do hope you are planning sequels – i see a lot more push & pull in their future in your scenario – all beautifully written by yourself & leaving us readers in a whirlpool of emmotion. I feel like i’ve just been put through a cycle in the washing machine! PPVS 5*
…wow!
You, my friend are an excellent writer. This was just beautiful.
This was absolutely heartwrenching. So sad, so full of emotion, yet so beautiful in the way that Tina knew it was Bette at the door without seeing her. So glad she asked her to come up and took her in to bed. They both needed the closeness and to feel their love. I agree wholeheartedly with Tigger. And yes, I’m crying too. Thanks.
Your are a totally amazing writer, the song fits so well with this chapter. Thank you!
Just awesome. Thank you.
Thts so good!
You have a wonderful writing talent. You can go from passionate, raw and detailed sexual stories that also take great ability to gut wrenching, vulnerable, raw, open, honest emotional stories w/o the story appearing too maudlin. Just amazing.
Oh my…this is some gorgeous writing. I am ever so grateful to have the opportunity to read your writing…such talent…such beauty. I’m still taking it all in…thank you for this experience.
