The Night Has Been Unkind – Short Story

Very quietly, Tina reached down and got onto her knees, bringing Bette closer. She pulled her in for a hug, leaning over and bringing Bette close. She inhaled sharply, all her nights of loneliness floating into her memory. Even as broken as Bette appeared, Tina needed her still.

"I’m dying without you," Bette whispered, pulling herself into Tina’s arms.

"Shhh," Tina whispered back, holding Bette tightly in her arms. She wanted to slip away, into some different time, where she and Bette could be together again. Some place where it could be alright.

"I love you," Bette said, deeper now. She hugged Tina tightly in her arms, trying to hold back the new stream of tears threatening to fall down her cheeks. "I will always … love you." She closed her eyes, content with the close contact. Tina’s arms wrapped around her were a reminder to breathe again. "I … I dream of you. You’re so beautiful, so vibrant, and I … I hear these voices, these things you’ve said to me, and then I see someone else, and by the time I look back … you fall down, and you look … dead." She could barely speak anymore as her voice cracked, but Tina was still holding her up, so she continued. "You pull away and just sort of … fade into the dark. God … it’s the worst feeling … I’ve killed you."

"I’m still here," Tina said quietly, pulling back a bit and searching the features of Bette’s face. It was getting harder and harder to deny her true love for the woman who had so absolutely wronged her. The same woman who had brought her entirely to life had taken it from her as well. The woman who had suffered for what seemed like an eternity over a mistake she would never forget. Tina knew Bette as well as she knew what she would ask next.

"Why are you still here?" Bette whispered, swallowing hard and closing her eyes again, more out of happiness than discontent. She didn’t understand it, but she was glad for Tina’s presence.

After watching Tina’s difficulty in answering, a very gentle kiss found her lips, and she pressed forward. It was so delicate.

Tina shifted around, nearly lying on the hardwood floor along with Bette. She slowly moved so that her lips could meet Bette’s fully.

    1. I swear I’m crying like Bette was while writing this. GOD. You are sooo amazing. You can write such insanely mercurial fics and yet at times you just sweep us away by such intense emotional fics like this. I’m utterly blown away by all the raw emotion shown in this one and you’re right, the song was brilliant and so apt. Are you planning to continue this one? Cos’ I think it can go further, if not, just continue doing what you’re doing. It’s a winning formula! =)) Thanks for this GrindRight, (although I’ll probably have to explain to my mom why I’m bawling my eyes out), PPVS! =))

    2. this is so sad but beautiful, bettes love for tine is so deep and tina..she cant help herself.plssssssssssss give us a little moreim crying and i dont know why…gosh if my gf will ever leave me i will be just like bette..

    3. Wow Grind – that was beautiful, heartbreaking, sad, and yet hopeful… But there is so much more to this – I do hope you are planning sequels – i see a lot more push & pull in their future in your scenario – all beautifully written by yourself & leaving us readers in a whirlpool of emmotion. I feel like i’ve just been put through a cycle in the washing machine! PPVS 5*

    4. This was absolutely heartwrenching. So sad, so full of emotion, yet so beautiful in the way that Tina knew it was Bette at the door without seeing her. So glad she asked her to come up and took her in to bed. They both needed the closeness and to feel their love. I agree wholeheartedly with Tigger. And yes, I’m crying too. Thanks.

    5. You have a wonderful writing talent. You can go from passionate, raw and detailed sexual stories that also take great ability to gut wrenching, vulnerable, raw, open, honest emotional stories w/o the story appearing too maudlin. Just amazing.

    6. Oh my…this is some gorgeous writing. I am ever so grateful to have the opportunity to read your writing…such talent…such beauty. I’m still taking it all in…thank you for this experience.
