The Night Has Been Unkind – Short Story

She was interrupted by the buzzer, and she swung the door opened. She quickly made her way up, finding Tina’s room with some difficulty. She could hardly stand anymore. She felt so weak.

Tina’s form appeared in the hall ahead of her, and her vision blurred with tears. She braced herself on each wall, very slowly walking forward.

"Bette …" Tina whispered, finding the sight difficult to watch. Bette looked delirious and fragile. She tried to forget her own misery without Bette, and reminded herself of how they got into this situation to begin with.

Cause I can only tell you what I know,
That I need you in my life.

"I … will never stop … loving you," Bette said, sobbing through her words. Her fingers gently ran over the walls, opening her eyes to what was before her: Tina. If only she could have one more touch. If only Tina would hold her again, she would be alright.

"You’re crying," Tina observed, slightly shocked at the outrage of emotions that was standing before her. That was the first time Bette had shown such wild emotion.

She wondered for a moment if Bette was drunk, but quickly saw the reason for her unsteady legs. She was practically hyperventilating with her own self-hatred and anger at the situation. She swallowed hard.

"Tina …" the word whispered quiet, but with definite power.

Standing quietly, Tina held her breath as Bette approached. She was uneasy, watching just how pained Bette was with their loss of contact, and their loss of love. How could someone be completely abled without it, but broken after having such a feeling had been taken away? She ignored her own question, turning her head when Bette stumbled.

"I love you," Bette sobbed, sliding down the wall and kneeling at Tina’s feet. It was spoken with confidence, and with conviction. "I just … I need you  …" she continued, her head in her hands. She didn’t know how to sort this out.

Tina closed her own eyes, leaning her head against the wall. She had her own memories, and her own sorrow for what Bette had done to her. She just wished it had never happened. Loving Bette was the greatest gift of her life, and now it had been taken from her. She couldn’t enjoy love anymore, because when she thought of love, she thought of Bette. The two went together with such ease.

    1. I swear I’m crying like Bette was while writing this. GOD. You are sooo amazing. You can write such insanely mercurial fics and yet at times you just sweep us away by such intense emotional fics like this. I’m utterly blown away by all the raw emotion shown in this one and you’re right, the song was brilliant and so apt. Are you planning to continue this one? Cos’ I think it can go further, if not, just continue doing what you’re doing. It’s a winning formula! =)) Thanks for this GrindRight, (although I’ll probably have to explain to my mom why I’m bawling my eyes out), PPVS! =))

    2. this is so sad but beautiful, bettes love for tine is so deep and tina..she cant help herself.plssssssssssss give us a little moreim crying and i dont know why…gosh if my gf will ever leave me i will be just like bette..

    3. Wow Grind – that was beautiful, heartbreaking, sad, and yet hopeful… But there is so much more to this – I do hope you are planning sequels – i see a lot more push & pull in their future in your scenario – all beautifully written by yourself & leaving us readers in a whirlpool of emmotion. I feel like i’ve just been put through a cycle in the washing machine! PPVS 5*

    4. This was absolutely heartwrenching. So sad, so full of emotion, yet so beautiful in the way that Tina knew it was Bette at the door without seeing her. So glad she asked her to come up and took her in to bed. They both needed the closeness and to feel their love. I agree wholeheartedly with Tigger. And yes, I’m crying too. Thanks.

    5. You have a wonderful writing talent. You can go from passionate, raw and detailed sexual stories that also take great ability to gut wrenching, vulnerable, raw, open, honest emotional stories w/o the story appearing too maudlin. Just amazing.

    6. Oh my…this is some gorgeous writing. I am ever so grateful to have the opportunity to read your writing…such talent…such beauty. I’m still taking it all in…thank you for this experience.
