Life: Altered 03.16 ~*~ Memory Fades

“Her name is Alison Peterson or something to that effect.”  She said, smiling to herself, and her mother
nodded.  The ankh reflected the rising
sun, and her mother stared at it.  Eternal
life, she studied her youngest child, the one that never should have been.  The child that she’d almost not had because
her father had died before she’d been born.

                “Oh, wonderful, of the
    Pasadena Peterson?”  Her mother asked,
and Quin chuckled, her mother finding the sound almost alien to her.  Quin didn’t answer; instead, she took another
sip of the bottle of wine.  “What?”  She asked and Quin shook her head, watching
her mother drink the mango juice concoction from the flask.

                “That smells utterly
disgusting.”  Quin said in a sickly
voice, and her mother barked a ***** laugh.

“I asked you what?  You cannot change the subject darling.  Is she of the Pasadena Peterson?  They are old money Harlequin, but are so
snotty.  I cannot imagine you on a date
with a Pasadena Peterson.”  Her mother
put in, and Quin sat up, she pulled her hair tie from her hair and let it
cascade down over her shoulders.  She
rubbed her eyes, thinking her mother always had to look at money, at status.  It was why her sister was in a loveless
    marriage.

“Mother, she’s just a girl.  She’s not from money, she doesn’t even know
I’m from money, and I like it that way.  I
would like for her to get to know me, for me.
Not for how much money I have in the bank, or rather how much YOU have
in the bank.”  Quin admitted, and she was
coming to terms with the fact that Alice
liked her for her, and no other reason
beyond the fact that she was a blonde, green eyed, (sometimes) *****.  How refreshing, away from
    New York
, where she was known in every street
corner.  She’d finally pulled away from
her name, and she was enjoying life, for the first time since she’d been away
    at boarding school.

“Really?  Keeping secrets already?  Not a good way to start a relationship
darling.”  Her mother chided, and Quin
    set her jaw.

                “Who said anything about a
relationship?  It’s one date mother.”  Quin shot back, feeling her palms get sweat,
knees weak, and arms heavy.  She bit back
the sensation, ***** she really did like this woman, didn’t she?

“I did.  It’s high time you brought home a lovely
woman too meet your mother.  Your sister
and her wife…”  Her mother began and
    Quin shot back.

    1. I agree with Ira about Bette not having the right to be as upset as she is. Usually I mainly want to see what’s happening with Alice, but now I want to see just how Bette is going to handle the situation.

    2. OK, I’m slow on the uptake! I’ve just put this story into the context of your other story – and whow, it’s awesome. Am completely addicted – but have to get on with a report – where are the hours in the day! Definitely not liking this Bette and have never liked Candace!
