Just The Girl – Chapter Fifty Two (a HYD-inspired fic)

“Sorry, I was a little distracted by all the food.” I admit in a small voice, feeling ashamed for my rudeness.

“Oh.” He said in acknowledgment. He didn’t look offended, which was a relief. He lifted a hand and snapped his fingers. Almost immediately, the butler was by his side. “Can you clear the table please? We’ll eat after we talk.”

    Shit.

“Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” I howl like a wolf during a full moon.

Both master and servant look at me as if I had grown another head. I wouldn’t be surprised if I actually did.

Porter recovered first, closing his mouth shut and erasing the look of surprise on his features. “I’m sorry, do you want to eat first?”

    Ding-ding-ding-ding! That is correct!

“Yes please.” I nod enthusiastically, beaming from ear to ear. Courtesy be damned, Ken Kennard was hungry!

    ——

“Urp.” I cover my mouth with a fist as a loud burp escaped my lips. Man, that was such a satisfying and enjoyable meal. I rub my belly with a silly, satiated grin on my face, I look seven months pregnant but I don’t mind. I had cleaned out my plate in record time and emptied most of the contents on the table in lightning speed. It was a blink-and-its-gone type of thing, which was nothing short of embarrassing. A few minutes ago, I was suffering from crippling, mind-numbing hunger; now, I believe I’ll be moaning and groaning because of severe indigestion. Worst case scenario, my toilet will become my new best friend before the day ends, with the two of us being inseparable because of a bad bout of diarrhea. “Urrrrp!” Whoops. Another loud one manages to get out. Whew, I can smell my garlic breath. “Uh.. sorry.” I apologize for my crude, socially inept behavior. I usually have more table manners. Usually. Think of it this way, at least I didn’t pass wind. That would suck.

I expected to see a look of disgust from my highbrow companion, after all, he ate in a way that told me that he had the rules of etiquette pounded deep into his brain. So you could just imagine my surprise when I gazed at him and saw the calm and unaffected expression on his face. At least he’s handling this better than his butler. The man was looking at me with bugged eyes and a hanging jaw – hardly hiding the fact that he was appalled by my tableside manners – or the absence of it. Really, I’m not a pig. Well, not usually that is.
