    “..a powerplay went down in the PGC after news spread in New York that I had cut my daughter off. You see, there has never been a question as to who will inherit my place in the company – well, until Bette moved out. Then all of a sudden, all these leeches pop out of nowhere, sucking up to me in hopes that I would entrust my billion dollar corporation in their incompetent hands.”

     

    The table is rocking a bit. Earthquake? Nope. My right leg’s jiggling underneath, something that happens when I’m feeling mighty antsy. I place a hand on my leg to steady it and stop it from moving, when it failed, I placed two. Shit, now my whole body is jiggling.

     

    I can see the butler looking at me curiously. I give him a small shrug, he could think that I had motor impairment for all I care. I’m hungry, damnit! And the mixed aroma from the dishes in front of me is not helping my plight at all. I shift my gaze back to the guy’s master and bit back a groan. Fuck, he’s still talking!

     

    “..but I lied to her. My lawyers could attest to this. I didn’t write her off my will. If that heart attack had killed me and I died without making amends with Bette, she still would have inherited the family business and our entire fortune. Who else would I entrust it with? Apart from a few distant relatives, I have no family left. I have not re-married and I don’t have illegitimate children from other women. So, Bette was, and still is, my sole heiress.”

     

    Damnit, he just had a heart attack! What was he doing sitting in front of a table loaded with cholesterol-rich food? Is he suicidal? Oh wait a minute. I glance at his plate. My eyebrows probably reached my hairline. His plate was devoid of meat. It was empty, well, with the exception of something that quite frankly, resembles baby food. Eww. Poor guy, my heart goes out to him.

     

    “..she’s the future of the PGC and I–”

     

    “Excuse me, I have a question.” I politely interrupt the one-sided conversation.

    9. Congrats on passing, Alchemy! Hope everything works out just as you wish. I am beyond doing a happy dance seeing your post and loved the chapter. I cannot quit laughing thinking about Shane’s stink finger. I had tears rolling down my cheeks while letting out a nice belly laugh. So freakin’ funny. Good to see Ken and Melvin working together… seems Bette will be a yalie after all.
