Fa La La La La La La La La
O tidings of comfort and joy.”
The singing had tapered off during the second verse, but come back strong at the end. The group paused, waiting for the next song. However, the same male voice began to sing the third verse. Bette frowned again. A very few joined in. Bette looked at Tina who was still smiling, though it was clear that she, like most of the others, didn’t know the third verse. Bette, though, joined in and happily heard Kit’s voice nearby.
The shepherds at those tidings
Rejoiced much in mind,
And left their flocks a-feeding
In tempest, storm and wind,
And went to Bethlehem straightway,
This blessed Babe to find
O tidings of comfort and joy,
comfort and joy,
O tidings of comfort and joy.
Immediately following the third verse, the man’s voice rose again, not pausing for a second, in case any opening would be an opportunity to change the song. Bette searched the crowd for the source of the voice. Her eyes met Ed’s and both of their eyes narrowed. She glared at him and he glared back. She saw the look of disappointment cross his face for a moment, but it was replaced with one of challenge.
Bette began to sing. It became clear, immediately, that they were not singing the same words. Mere seconds after that, they both realized what had happened – Bette had been singing a fourth verse that Ed did not know. He had, instead, sung what was the fifth verse. Consternation crossed his face. He ended their staredown and he suddenly fell silent. Bette sang a few additional lyrics but then herself stopped. surged through Bette. Bette Porter liked winning. She opened her mouth, about to begin what she knew would be a solo of the fourth verse.
“Beeehhhttuh! “
Bette stopped. The sound was whispered, but it reached its target. She knew that voice and that sound. She had heard it ever since she could remember, and she had only heard it when she was about to be naughty.
“What?” she hissed angrily at Kit.
“Don’t you dare!”
“But…” she whined in the same voice she had used since she was Angelica’s age.

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
