“Excited?” Bette whispered in Tina’s ear as she watched Tina fill another thermos with something warm to drink.
“Yeah and nervous.”
“Why nervous?” Bette turned Tina around so that they face each other and she pulled her into a hug.
“What if no one comes?”
“We’ve got us and our friends and their friends, and you said some families from school are coming and an intern from your job and his girlfriend. They’ll be lots of us.”
“I’m being silly.”
“You’re not. This is important to you. Some people come, lured by Kit’s free hot chocolate and cookies.”
“It’s so great that she is doing that.”
“Well, greatness runs in Porter blood.”
“The greatness in the blood crowded out the modesty.”
“An overrated virtue.”
“When’s the last time you went over your checklist?”
“Five minutes ago.”
“Do you want to check it again?”
“No, I’m all done.”
“Really?”
“Maybe just one more time.”

The core group had arrived in rapid waves, and an anticipatory buzz filled the house. Bette did check her list again, and all were now assembled to get final instructions.
“Everyone. Everyone.”
“HEY, Bette’s talking,” Alice yelled.
“Thank you, Alice. I think,” Bette replied amid soft laughter from the group. “I want to thank all of you for being here and for all of your help, even when I drove some of you crazy.”
“You Bette? Never.”
“Helena’s deserved sarcasm aside, I know that Tina. Angelica and I are blessed to share our lives with all of you. Now, each of you has a bag that goes over your shoulder and that has songbooks and flashlights to pass out. There are also some thermoses.”
“There are nice, Bette,” Tasha said as she looked at the large booklets, the green cover of which was embossed in gold with “The West Hollywood Neighborhood Caroling.” Inside, the lyrics were printed across two pages in large print.
“James did the design.”
“Yay, James!” a few called out as he smiled and tilted his head in acknowledgment.
“Kit has the pitch whistle, which she’ll use before each song.”

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
