Fa La La La La La La La La
“Absolutely clear.”
“Me too,”
“So….?”
“Espressos first?”
“Double shots.”
The parents were now in the car with their daughter. Bette was taking Angelica to pre-school and then dropping Tina at the garage where her car had just had some scheduled maintenance.
Angie wanted to practice singing Christmas songs whenever she was in the car and her mothers, together and separately, usually obliged. This morning, though, their brains still fuzzy after two cups of coffee, had hoped that she wouldn’t ask.
She did, and Tina had agreed quickly.
“Yeah, Mama B, the ‘Hippmus Song’.”
“It’s too early to sing.”
“But Angie has told me what a wonderful song it is, haven’t you Pumpkin?”
The little girl nodded, “And it’s fun!”
“Angie, did you know that Mama T has never heard Mama B sing the ‘Hippmus Song’?
The little girl shook her head. “Mama B, you should sing it for Mama T!”
“Angie, I’m sure that Mama T doesn’t want to…”
“Oh, Bette, but I do.”
“All right.”
“YAAAY. ‘Hipmus!”
Bette smiled. A few days earlier, the little girl had asked Bette to sing a special Christmas song, and in a rare silly mood, this song had popped out from somewhere in her childhood. “
Bette cleared her throat. “Ready.”
“Ready!” the child and other her mother had declared unanimously.

“I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don’t want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don’t think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won’t have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door, that’s the easy thing to do
I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too
Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian
There’s lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I’d feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage
I can see me now on Christmas morning, creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise when I open up my eyes
To see a hippo hero standing there

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
