Fa La La La La La La La La
Kit’s eyebrows knitted, “Bette said she’s never caroled before?”
“Yeah. She said she’d never been caroling before. That the neighborhood was too dangerous.”
“She said she’d never done the walking through the streets caroling? Not that she hadn’t sung carols?”
Tina thought for a moment. “I guess we were only talking about the walking around singing. Bette knows Christmas carols?”
“Uh huh. Daddy took us to church every Sunday.” Kit replied, knowing that she needed to speak to Bette.
Later, when the eating and chatting was done, Tina excused herself so that she could take Angelica to the rest room to wash her hands before they headed home. As soon as she was out of earshot, Kit turned to Bette.
“Tina was surprised to learn that you knew Christmas carols. Did you not tell her?”
“Tell her what Kit? There’s nothing to tell,” Bette responded in a warning tone.
“Yes there is and you know it.”
“No Kit, there isn’t. It’s a completely different situation. We’re walking through the streets, not in a church.”
“You need to at least tell her.”
“No I don’t. Besides, we’re singing songs. Not carols. The situation is in no way analogous.”
“Bette, you should…”
“No, Kit. Enough.”
Bette had left the table and crossed the room to intercept Tina and Angelica as they walked back to the table. She swooped her daughter into her arms and the family of three returned to the table for their goodbyes, then headed home.
Alice was fidgeting in her seat, restraining herself as best she could, until the door closed behind Tina. She blurted before Kit could leave to check the customers, “So what’s up with Bette and caroling?”
“Nah, that’s for Bette…”
“C’mon, Kit. Maybe we need to know. You know, in case something happens when we’re out there.”
“We probably should know, Kit.”
The older woman looked at Shane with surprise. She was going to ignore Alice, as she often did, but Shane’s request, unusual for Shane, made her pause. Kit thought for a moment. “All I’m sayin’ is that caroling can bring out the worst in Bette.”
“She’s gonna cheat?”

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
