“ALICE!!!!” Kit and Shane yelled.
As few minutes later, when Alice and Shane sat alone, their meal done and their drinks emptied and Alice was telling another story, they noticed a blonde hanging to the side. When Shane turned towards the lurker, the clearly younger woman beamed and approached. “Hi, Shane.”
“Hi.”
“It’s Marsha. Remember me?”
Shane cupped her chin in her hand for a moment, “Girl Bar, Thursday, three weeks ago.”
The blonde beamed. “Yeah, then. You said we could catch up when I saw you around. And, well, I just saw you and thought I’d drop by to say hi…” she hesitated for a moment. “Maybe we can get together?” she asked hopefully.
“That would be great…”
The young blonde leaned forward just a bit.
“…but I’m having dinner with my friend.”
The younger woman’s shoulder shrank.
“But, hey, I’m gonna be caroling. The one on Kit’s flyer. Maybe I’ll see you there.”
The disappointment fled the blonde and she beamed. “Great!”

“The hippmus song, Mama B!”
The child’s voice had interrupted the quiet inside the car, causing her sleepy mothers to wince. Both had gotten little sleep, Bette reading student essays and finalizing the college’s third quarter budget, while Tina had had conference calls with a team of potential investors in a modern-day version of Moby Dick, told from the whale’s perspective and reflecting the effects of global warming. When they were finally in bed, with Bette curled behind Tina, the blonde had pulled her partner close in a way that was always a suggestion that they make love. Bette had responded by turning over so that they faced one another, she then pulled their bodies close and began to kiss Tina’s shoulder. Then they fell asleep.
In the morning, an embarrassed Bette apologized, “T, I’m so sorry. I wanted to. Believe me. I really wanted to, but I hadn’t realized how exhausted I…”
“It’s OK, Bette.”
“No, it isn’t. I don’t want you to think that…”
“I fell asleep too.”
They had laughed at their predicament.
“So, what’s your schedule like tonight?”

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
