Chapter XXIX – Empire State of Mind – Tho’ much is taken, much abides
Tina smiled back at her, but said nothing, and took another sip from her drink.
She and Nadia talked a while longer about the growing interest among other well-funded foundations to undertake joint projects with Bette’s, but the first part of their conversation hung in the back of Tina’s mind.
Others began to join them, and after several minutes Tina walked to the other side of the hall to chat with another new donor who’d decided to channel her giving through Bette’s foundation and who’d been introduced to her by Nadia. She paused in the middle of her response to a question from the woman when she spied Bette re-crossing the middle of the hall. Bette had seen her also and paused at mid-stride. They exchanged a hot glance that Tina felt go up and down her body like a physical caress. After blowing her an almost imperceptible air kiss, Bette resumed walking.
Tina followed Bette’s saunter with her eyes, hungrily drinking in the toned back and graceful sway of those hips, unable to tear her gaze away from that still-singular, sexy body, encased tonight in a silky fire-engine red gown that skimmed over her toned curves and with high slits that showed off those long, slim legs that seemed to go on forever.
Hmmmmm….the sight of her still cuts through me like a bullet, after all these years. A quick glance around the room told her her eyes weren’t the only ones tracking her wife’s still sensational body around tonight.
Tina turned her attention back to the donor with some difficulty. Fifteen minutes later Tina was explaining the thrust of her own charitable endeavors to a group of the new donors who’d wandered over to Tina and the woman she was talking to when she felt a hot breath on her ear. She shuddered slightly when she heard, ”Tina, I will explode if I don’t get you in bed in the next thirty minutes.”
She says that now?!
Tina whipped her head around and almost moaned at the naked desire she saw in those large brown eyes that seemed to reach into her heart.
One of the women in the circle coughed slightly. It took a few moments before Bette and Tina turned in her direction. The woman smiled, and stage-whispered to them, “I’m guessing that you two have a lot of catching up to do …”

What a mess, that whole sniper attack, thank god that Diana seems to survive it.

Great update. I can sense Miller is going to be trouble for Bette and Tina. In your next update, I hope you answer a question I have about Miller. If Tina originally knew Miller as Georgina Keller, a stock-broker in London, during her university years, how did TIna recognize her as “Cam Miller” in the hospital? I sense another sub-story there.
You’re right! (Minx) Answers to these and other ?s shortly when I post the last chapter in a way that I hope puts a neat bow around the whole package.
Happy New Year and welcome back. As always I am intrigued by your storybook. I am glad to see that 15 years later Bette and Tina still carry the fire of love. I know that when they had taken on the welfare of the gold and it would take a toll on them, their family and friends. Did it cost them their child? You only mentioned Angelica in the update. Poor Jackson never seemed to recover. I know that our heroines understood the risk of being guardians but did they realize the heavy cost? Can’t wait for the next update. Thank for continuing to entertain us. We are very grateful that you share your talent with us .
