Chapter XXIX – Empire State of Mind – Tho’ much is taken, much abides
”Baby you’ll always have my heart racing whenever you come into a room, you know that,” Bette answered hoarsely, raking her eyes all over Tina, before returning to those loving hazel orbs. Her loneliness and lust for the blonde showed unashamedly.
Tina swallowed drily at her wife’s intense look, licked her lips, loving the taste of Bette on them, and responded, ”And I will forever ache for your touch, your kiss – you know that.”
To break the sexual tension she’d instigated with her provocative look tonight, Tina turned around, pulling on Bette’s hand as she walked back into the lit area of the corner of the hall they’d been in, tossing over her shoulder, ”so I fully expect you to cover me with kisses once we get home later.”
Bette reluctantly followed her into the hall. Her clear disappointment at not being able to fool around with Tina showed in her face. She was opening her mouth to say something when they both heard someone call Bette’s name.
”Bette, there you are!” a tall, lithe blonde in a midnight blue bustier evening gown called out. ”I heard Madame Thiezel is thinking of leaving soon because she has an early morning flight tomorrow. But she wants to have a private word with you before she leaves.” The young blonde, who was a head taller than Bette in her stylish high heels, drew closer and touched Bette’s bare shoulder to subtly point Bette in the direction the brunette guessed the German matriarch was waiting in.
Tina was still holding Bette’s hand and Bette could sense her wife’s playful, sexy mood changing when the younger blonde touched Bette with something approaching familiarity.
Bette introduced them quickly, ”Nadia, my wife Tina.”
”Nadia’s a new associate in Jackson’s firm who they hired away from another firm. She’s been working with me to help bring new donors and a few new board members on board smoothly. Her excellent work’s been a big reason why we’re having a successful start to the new financial year, despite all of these changes,” Bette explained, while squeezing Tina’s hand.
”It’s such an honor to finally meet you, Tina,” Nadia said smoothly, and then re-grasped Bette’s shoulder, ”I’m sorry, Bette, but I think you need to head over to Madame Thiezel right now.”

Great update. I can sense Miller is going to be trouble for Bette and Tina. In your next update, I hope you answer a question I have about Miller. If Tina originally knew Miller as Georgina Keller, a stock-broker in London, during her university years, how did TIna recognize her as “Cam Miller” in the hospital? I sense another sub-story there.
You’re right! (Minx) Answers to these and other ?s shortly when I post the last chapter in a way that I hope puts a neat bow around the whole package.
Happy New Year and welcome back. As always I am intrigued by your storybook. I am glad to see that 15 years later Bette and Tina still carry the fire of love. I know that when they had taken on the welfare of the gold and it would take a toll on them, their family and friends. Did it cost them their child? You only mentioned Angelica in the update. Poor Jackson never seemed to recover. I know that our heroines understood the risk of being guardians but did they realize the heavy cost? Can’t wait for the next update. Thank for continuing to entertain us. We are very grateful that you share your talent with us .
