Chapter XXIII – Empire State of Mind – Will to Power

    “Where? What did they do?”

“We’re still trying to piece the details together. But I can confirm the Greenwich, Connecticut area activity, for sure.  And surveillance in Charlotte.  Oh, yeah, another thing: they were sent something by one of our tech teams in Bletchley Park – under the radar.  Bletchley Park thought that it was above board, because the order had all the right authorization codes, etc. ”

“What are you guys doing now?”

“We’re closing in. Lately, he’s kept himself to himself, after that flurry of activity, gone underground, no calls out or into his cell, even.  Nevertheless, when we ran his name in databases her and in Europe, it popped up in one of the databases we cross referenced.  Met a guy yesterday who owes me a favor from counterintelligence and told him that his lordship’s name popped in their database.  He told me on the down-low that they’d picked up his trail while investigating a breach of intel they’d been developing out of Lebanon.  Looks like he shared raw intel with the Americans well before our guys were prepared to do so.”

    “So what’s going to happen?”

“My friend says he’s gone, basically. And the real horror will start soon for him.  The least of his worries will be being sacked from the House of Lords, which will happen quickly.  We don’t know — he could be given a chance to ask to leave on his own accord.”

“Doesn’t matter because we’re digging into the stuff in the file you sent us. All pretty serious info.  Well prepared file, by the way.  Our compliments to your source.  As we agreed your name and your source are out of it.  We’ve slotted this under anonymous.”

Peter made a noncommittal sound.  He planned on passing on what Fleming had just shared with Bette.  Bette said she hadn’t prepared the file that he’d passed on to Fleming, though, and had merely summarized and extracted what she felt an intelligence agency could use.  Still…

“We’re chasing down the members of that black ops team, even as we speak.”

The man paused, and then continued in a thoughtful voice, “Really strange turn for him. Everyone we checked with said there’d been a time when he wielded a lot of power behind the scenes.   Back in the day, people in some units were actually scared.”

    2. WOW! is all I can say about this incredible story of intrigue and romance and mystery. Its the book I can’t put down with all that goes on page after page. I’m so loving it with all the characters and the twists and turns in the storyline. Bravo for creating such an incredible story!

    3. OK. first things first. Tina make someone investigate Peter’s medical claim. Make sure the villains have not discovered the fact that Bette’s “redhead” friend has been in two public places at the same time on different ends of New York city. And when it is time to “grab the canned peaches and head for the bomb shelter” team Tibette ensure everybody knows where the two safe havens are located. Things are getting a bit “dicey” Great writing, I love it

    4. Canned peaches — so funny, love it!
