Chapter XXIII – Empire State of Mind – Will to Power
“See you soon,” Peter said over his shoulder as he resumed his fast clip.
Twenty minutes later, Tina saw him relaxed in one of the tables in a secluded corner outside of the café, nursing a drink. She signaled that she was getting herself a cup of tea.
“Hot chocolate?” she asked as took a seat.
He smiled. “One of the things I look forward to when I come to New York. Sarabeth’s hot chocolate. Beats anyone else’s. Except the one in Café Angelina’s. ”
Tina nodded in agreement. “In Paris? Yeah, Bette loves the hot chocolate there, too.”
“Speaking of Bette,” Peter started, licking his lips to clear the hot chocolate that had stuck to it. “I guess she doesn’t know about this meeting?”
Tina shook her head.
“This about the photo?” he asked. “I told Bette that, as far as I know, no one in the collective asked for that. So whoever had that done must have been free-lancing.”
She looked at him closely. “But you have a theory, right?”
He nodded. “I think the quality of the work done on the photo indicates a pro job. And, maybe by someone just trying to impress the leadership of the collective. Or, by someone somebody in the leadership used before for an intimidation job or something, to remind them that he, or she, is still around.”
Tina blew out an impatient breath. “Well, I … and Bette … won’t be just another set of victims of that damn collective in this whole mess, Peter.”
He smiled at her. “Bette did say, in passing, that you were feisty, and would be looking into this. I was really surprised by that.”
She looked at him with sharpening eyes. “I had to jump in. That pissant pulled a knife on her, on us, last night. Did you know that?”
He returned her sharp glance, eyes clearly surprised.
“So you’ll understand why I couldn’t stand on the sidelines any longer, right?”
He nodded quickly, and pulled out a smartphone, thumbing through his list of contacts, it looked like. He asked, as he searched his contacts, “So: jumping in now. This isn’t about you? And your … um … reputation?”
Tina snorted. “No. I could care less. The only one whose opinion would matter regarding a picture like that is Bette’s. And she saw right through that stupid job. No matter how “pro” it was. So – this isn’t about me. It’s about her.”

Thanks! Hope you are enjoying this one.
Best,

Thanks! I had a feeling Peter was going to leave Bette in his will! I think the shit is about to hit the fan. PPS
Seems to be coming to a head. Glad Tina is getting more involved. Enjoyed it, thanks
would like to see tom love with bette and bette this sexier than ever.
Wow good chapter now my head is spinning…….Hopefully we see things fall into place? As always keep the Tibette safe.
WOW! is all I can say about this incredible story of intrigue and romance and mystery. Its the book I can’t put down with all that goes on page after page. I’m so loving it with all the characters and the twists and turns in the storyline. Bravo for creating such an incredible story!
OK. first things first. Tina make someone investigate Peter’s medical claim. Make sure the villains have not discovered the fact that Bette’s “redhead” friend has been in two public places at the same time on different ends of New York city. And when it is time to “grab the canned peaches and head for the bomb shelter” team Tibette ensure everybody knows where the two safe havens are located. Things are getting a bit “dicey” Great writing, I love it
Canned peaches — so funny, love it!
Thanks for the comments over the past few chapters, ladies. Approaching the end; hope you’ll continue to let me know what you think, e.g., if it continues to flow for you.
