Catching up with Dana and Tina – Chapter 33

“Yeah but the decision was already made. We didn’t even have a say.”

“Why should we Al? It’s her life and her family. She and Tina can do whatever they want. They don’t need our permission. I’m happy for them. I think it’s a great opportunity for Bette; not only because she’s doing what she loves but she’s also securing her family’s financial future. You can’t blame her for that. Besides she hasn’t been happy here for a while. The new environment will do them all some good.”

“I think she’s pulling away from us Dana. She’s really changing who she is.”

    “What makes you say that?”

“She’s got all these rules. She’s imposing boundaries. She all but gave me an ultimatum about keeping Helena away from her.”

“She’s just trying to get back control of her life Al. She has every right to decide how she wants to live it. We really have overstepped the boundaries over the years. We need to respect that she doesn’t appreciate us being so intrusive and involving ourselves in their business all the time.”

    “What about Tina?”

    “What about her?”

“Doesn’t she get a say? Is she just expected to up and move to New York? She loves her life here. She loves her job and she’s going to miss her friends.”

“Al Tina hasn’t made any decisions yet and she doesn’t really have a job anymore unless she gets hired by the new owners of the studio. Her life is with her family. If they are in New York maybe it makes sense that she would move there, but Bette isn’t pressuring her to do anything she doesn’t want to do. It’s completely Tina’s decision. They are working things out between them. We just need to stay out of it and mind our own business.”

“I know. It’s just hard not seeing them every day.”

“Then let’s just focus on something else. What’s going on in your life did you hear back from the talk show producers yet?”

“I’m going for a final interview. They’ll make a decision in a couple of weeks. It’s looking pretty good for me.”

“That’s great Al. I’m sure you’ll get it.”

    “Thanks.”

“What about Uta … you two still going strong?”

    1. I really love Dana, i hope she put some sense in Alice, that they don’t need to interfere with Bette’s and Tina’s relationship, they did it in the past and Alice need to respect Bette’s boundaries.

I hope that Tina really thinks hard about her friendship with Helena, she doesn’t seems to be convinced that Helena means big trouble for, mostly her career, but also for her relationship with Bette.

Thank you Bat, for the three updates!

    2. Three chapters back I was feeling incomplete. I thought Tina’s confessions were too surface and accepted too easy by Bette. The way the conversation transpired was not “real” given the prsonalities of these women. It felt like two school friends were chatting. I dont think they are friends yet. They are on the road to friendship which is great. I know Bette’s goal was to show Tina she can be understanding, but that conversation was just wrong. Compare it to Bette’s confession which was full of emotion from both of them, this dialogue was like a school girl interview. I struggled with that dialogue. So… karma has entered to storyline. BAT, I now like the approach you have taken. Bette didnt have to express a negative verdict in what Tina confessed, but I think some emotion should have been displayed. Now Bette can say, without saying, “I told you so”. Karma can communicate with Tina that she played a major part in the ways her life is shaping. Sometimes when you are the victim, it is through your own doing.

    3. Great update. It’s hard to try and understand why Tina still doesn’t quite get it regarding her relationship with Helena and how damaging it is to her own integrity and reputation.
She’s talked about making a change in her life but it’s like making that decision to let go of life in LA is taken a strangle hold on her. If I had that choice, I’d take Bette and Angive and NYC in nano second! ????
