Catching up with Dana and Tina – Chapter 33

Alice entered the room where Dana was having her chemo; they’d been there for almost two hours. After reading a few more messages on Dana’s website Lara put away the laptop and read a book while Dana drifted off to sleep. This was Dana’s third of six chemo sessions and like the first two times Lara found that reading the messages from Dana’s fans not only helped to pass the time but it also did wonders to lift Dana’s mood. Lara looked up surprised to see Alice as she wasn’t expecting any visitors that day.

“Hey Al what are you doing here?”

“I just wanted to see how she was doing.”

“She had a rough start but she calmed down after a while. She just drifted off to sleep.”

“Do you mind if I hang around until she wakes up?”

“Not at all … She’s always happy to see you. As a matter of fact if you don’t mind I could use a break to get some air and grab a snack. I was getting a little cramped in this chair but I didn’t want to leave her alone.”

“That’s not a problem. I’ll stay with her. Take your time.”

“Thank you. Her attendant’s name is Connie. She’s right outside by the reception desk if you need anything.”

    “OK.”

    “Can I bring you anything?”

    “No I’m good.”

“Thanks Alice. I’ll be back in about 30 minutes OK? She’ll be finishing up in about an hour then we can leave.”

    “OK.”

Ever since the night of the B52’s concert at the Planet Alice and Dana had rekindled their friendship of old. With a lot of persuasion and keeping her promise that she would take care of her Alice managed to get Dana out of the house and kept her from moping and feeling sorry for herself. Alice and Shane were no longer sporting the crazy hair-do but Dana was getting more comfortable with baldness and Lara told her every day how beautiful and sexy she was. She was finally starting to believe it for herself. She even joked about how much they were saving on hair care products.

Dana was making great strides in her recovery. It helped that she’d finally joined one of the cancer survivor support groups that her doctors had recommended. It was while meeting with these special people that she learned more about her cancer, what to expect, what questions to ask and how to cope. She’d attended a seminar and got the opportunity to meet Dr. Susan Love. After hearing the doctor speak Dana wanted to learn more and do more. She made arrangements to meet with Dr. Love and she asked Alice to go with her. They made a day of it and did some shopping before heading to the restaurant where they were meeting Dr. Love for lunch. Dana stopped and stared at a mannequin in one of the display windows.

    1. I really love Dana, i hope she put some sense in Alice, that they don’t need to interfere with Bette’s and Tina’s relationship, they did it in the past and Alice need to respect Bette’s boundaries.

I hope that Tina really thinks hard about her friendship with Helena, she doesn’t seems to be convinced that Helena means big trouble for, mostly her career, but also for her relationship with Bette.

Thank you Bat, for the three updates!

    2. Three chapters back I was feeling incomplete. I thought Tina’s confessions were too surface and accepted too easy by Bette. The way the conversation transpired was not “real” given the prsonalities of these women. It felt like two school friends were chatting. I dont think they are friends yet. They are on the road to friendship which is great. I know Bette’s goal was to show Tina she can be understanding, but that conversation was just wrong. Compare it to Bette’s confession which was full of emotion from both of them, this dialogue was like a school girl interview. I struggled with that dialogue. So… karma has entered to storyline. BAT, I now like the approach you have taken. Bette didnt have to express a negative verdict in what Tina confessed, but I think some emotion should have been displayed. Now Bette can say, without saying, “I told you so”. Karma can communicate with Tina that she played a major part in the ways her life is shaping. Sometimes when you are the victim, it is through your own doing.

    3. Great update. It’s hard to try and understand why Tina still doesn’t quite get it regarding her relationship with Helena and how damaging it is to her own integrity and reputation.
She’s talked about making a change in her life but it’s like making that decision to let go of life in LA is taken a strangle hold on her. If I had that choice, I’d take Bette and Angive and NYC in nano second! ????
