A Leap Of Faith (Chapter 3)

The pair sat down on the sofa and began to catch up on their lives, the past few weeks had gone by with little contact between them so it was such a relief to be able to talk openly about what they’d been doing, things that had made them laugh, and their plans for the coming season.

As Dana finished off the last of the second bottle of wine, she was feeling confident enough to reach over and take Alice’s hand in hers. Alice put down her empty glass and turned to face Dana, she knew she couldn’t avoid talking about what she did, and now seemed to be the perfect time, the evening had gone well and there were no other interruptions…

Dana: Al, I’ve really missed you over the past few weeks, it’s great to see you again, and laugh with you again…

Alice: I know, I’ve missed you too… and I’m sorry that we haven’t done this sooner, it’s just that I haven’t known what to say, I’ve been such an idiot Dana and I’m sorry…

Dana: No I was an idiot, I’m sorry…

Alice: No, Dane please, let me explain…

With that, Alice tentatively started to explain her actions to Dana; she thought it would be best if she just tried to rebuild their friendship, and ignore how she really felt, because Dana was the best thing in her life and without her she was nothing.

As Dana listened intently to Alice, she couldn’t help the feeling of disappointment that swept over her when she heard Alice refer to them as ‘just friends.’ She couldn’t understand her feelings, Alice was her very best friend, yet that night, she felt something in that kiss that she had never felt before, and since then she had hungered for that feeling again. As Dana examined Alice’s features, she could tell that there was something she was hiding from her… and if they had any hope at a future, friends or otherwise, then Dana needed to know how Alice truly felt, or else the mistruths would tear them apart.

Dana: (softly) Don’t lie to me Alice, I know you too well…

Alice looked down when she heard Dana’s words; she thought she was doing so well convincing Dana (and herself) that it was all a stupid mistake. Again Alice sighed, her eyes started to water; she wasn’t sure she could tell Dana how she really felt because it meant risking the very foundations of their friendship… but without honesty, she reasoned, what hope was there?

    4. Wow, so many Danish stories at the moment, it’s hard to keep track. :) I always love stories which start right after the 4 AM-kiss. So, keep it up! Btw, is your name from the song from Billie Meyers (love that song).
