    Temporal days

    She looked up, startled when her mother’s hand appeared before her eyes, “Earth to Spencer! Honey, what’s going on with you and Ashley? Baby, you know you can tell me anything?” Unable to stop the sarcastic snort from escaping, Spencer watched her mother stiffen. “Fine, I was only trying to help. Look, I’m not going to pretend to understand what you and Ashley share, but you’re my daughter and baby, you’re hurting.” The two women started at each other. Spencer pointed to the chair across from her, “You better sit down.” She took a deep breath, “I asked Ashley to have a baby.” Spencer ignored her mother’s shocked gasp, “Ash promised to think about it, but every time I tried to talk to her about it something always came up. After a few months, it was pretty clear that she didn’t want a child. The night I came here, I confronted her and told her that I really felt that I needed to do this.” Spencer stared at Paula, tears coursing down her face, “Mom, I came here because I would really appreciate your help and support as I go through this.”

    The refrigerator’s motor clicked on, breaking the room’s silence. “What are you thinking?” Paula’s face had visibly paled, “I think for once, I agree with Ashley.” Spencer glared at her mother, “What are talking about?” Reaching for her daughter’s hand, Paula began softly, “Honey, what you and Ashley chose to do with your lives was just that…your choice. What you’re talking about now, bringing an innocent child into your relationship is just wrong.” Tearing her hand away from her mother’s grasp, Spencer sneered, “What in the hell are you talking about? What exactly are you trying to say, mother?” Paula’s voice rose angrily, “You’ll be bringing that child up in sin!” Spencer laughed, “Really? What about Ryan?” Paula rolled her eyes, “He has nothing to do with this!” Spencer snorted, “Last time I checked Kay was pregnant before she married Glen.” She paused for a moment, her expression becoming thoughtful, “You know, speaking of Glen…exactly how long were you and Dad married before you got pregnant with him?” Paula’s face flushed darkly, meeting her daughter’s icy stare, “You can judge people all you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that what you’re doing goes against God’s law. I cannot support you raising a child in sin!”
