    Jesus, not tonight! Ashley swallowed nervously before cutting into her chicken breast. She tensed more, watching her wife’s jaw setting angrily, “So?” Ashley quickly shoved a large bite of chicken and mashed potatoes in her mouth, mumbling something unintelligible. Putting her fork down, Spencer glared at her wife, impatiently waiting for her to finish chewing. Ashley finally swallowed, reaching for her glass of water. Spencer got to it first, quickly moving it away from her. “I asked you a question!” Ashley stood, picked up the glass of water and sat back down at her end of the table. Forcing herself to remain calm, she finally replied to her wife, “Baby…I just need a little more time to think about this…” Spencer pursed her lips cutting her off, “Really? What about the last six months? Just stop this, Ashley! We both know what you’ve already decided!”

    Spencer suddenly stood, moving only inches from her wife’s face. She brought her hands to her chest, pleading, “Why can’t you say it? Why can’t you just tell me how you feel?” Ashley couldn’t bring herself to look into her wife’s disappointed eyes, she stared down whispering, “I don’t want a baby Spence. I want us to stay…just like this.” She reached for her wife, “Baby, we have everything we ever wanted. I just feel like that’s enough.” Spencer pulled away from Ashley’s embrace, “I love you with all my heart, but this is something that I need to do.” She waited a few moments for her wife to respond before stalking angrily out of the kitchen.

    The sound of the closet door slamming opening finally drew Ashley to her feet. She stood in the bedroom’s doorway gasping. A large suitcase was on the bed, already half filled. She watched helplessly as her wife continued to pack. Trying desperately to get her mouth to work, to somehow force the words in her mind past her mute lips, Ashley could feel her body becoming numb. She closed her eyes, praying that this was some kind of nightmare. Her wife’s cold glare awakened her. Ashley opened her eyes and tried to make sense of the indistinct blob in front of her. Detached from her body, she watched as the other Ashley doubled over, sobbing, only low chocking noises escaping her mouth.
