“Is that why you were sick when you saw me?” she asked, unable to hide the look of elation that was taking over her once-stricken face.
“Probably,” I admitted. She smiled in response, visibly calming before me.
“To be honest, I’m surprised you’ve reacted the way you have,” she frowned, quickly continuing as she picked up on how my expression was changing. I was getting angry again. How the fuck could she be surprised at my reaction to her walking out and then walking back in again after so long!?
“That message I left you?” she asked, searching my face for some semblance of a clue of what she was talking about.
“What message?” I demanded.
“I called you -” she started.
“When?” I cut her off, my mind working overtime in trying to remember any message she may have left me over the five years she was absent. Nothing. My heart was pounding.
“Must have been the weekend after you came round and I wasn’t there – after I’d split up with Anna,” she told me.
“No you didn’t,” I insisted, praying she was confused and had got it wrong. How could I have missed a message?!
“Yeah I did,” she told me, intensely.
“Well I didn’t get a message,” I said hurriedly.
“Well, I left one,” she sounded confused and angry, not at me, but at how I’d somehow not received whatever it was she’d had to say. I could hear how much she wanted to convince me she was telling the truth. “I just wanted to hear your voice and explain everything to you, cos I knew I’d made the biggest mistake ever in doing what I did to you… but when you didn’t pick up I just told it to your answer phone, instead. I thought you didn’t call me back cos you couldn’t forgive me.”
“Trust me – if I’d gotten the message, I’d have called,” I insisted, knowing it was the truth. “What did you say?” I was so desperate to know, it was ridiculous. I was dying to know.
“It was lame – I had this whole little speech prepared, and everything,” she said quietly, amused at herself.
“How did it go?” I asked gently, but wanting to cry. I wanted to be back in the past with her again, back before everything had gone so wrong… but I couldn’t. It was almost a way of punishing myself, but I needed to know what I should have heard… the message that was meant for me but one I’d never received.

were you reading my mind? because last night i was like…ok damn i really could use an update of png! and what an update it was!! so much stuff cleared up!! but theres still that tiny matter of that bet…hmm no big right? lol WRONG! prepare for fallout. remember everyone DUCK AND COVER! i’m so excited for the next chappy!
basically i agree with what everyone has said so far. and i cant wait until the next chapter. *dances* yay spenceandash. and if aiden screws this up ill castrate him, not really thats just my threat :]
o how i have been waiting for this update! and well worth it, cant wait to see how this week goes

Holy COW! Great update man. GREAT. I loved it. And the emotion that was running thru this whole thing? Amazing. I was feeling everything that Ashley and Spencer were feeling. Thnk god that they are together, but now I’ve started to panic about when Spencer finds out about the bet. I wonder how it’s going to go down. I’ll be waiting for your next post.
