What About Love? Pt 1
"Hey come on now baby sis!" I look over my shoulder to see Kit approaching from her office. Grabbing another chair she pulls it up to the table and sit’s down next to Helena. "I know you don’t mean that." She adds in reply to Bette’s previous comment.
"You know what? I think I do mean it Kit!" Bette confirms as she turns her attention to her sister. "Let’s face it, loves made non of us happy."
Sighing, Kit shakes her head in exasperation and I so know she’s going to blame my recent mood swings for Bette’s sudden change of heart. Maybe she’s right! Maybe I am a bad influence at the moment.
"Well I’ve found love and I’m happy or doesn’t my hetrosexual relationship count?" She asks as she rubs her pregnant stomach with obvious delight.
"It counts Kit." I quickly reply. "You’re just one of the very few, very lucky ones."
"Whose lucky?"
The soft gentle voice makes my entire body tense and I choke slightly on a mouthful of coffee. Suddenly desperate to flee the Planet I try and think of an excuse to leave but nothing believable comes to mind. I fucking hate that I can outwit any of my friends on anything they say but when it comes to finding something really important or self-preserving my brain never seems to kick into gear!
"Lara!"
Yeah great, Lara! Just the person I didn’t want to see. I am so good at sorting out other peoples connections but when it comes to my own, I totally suck!
"I am so pleased you’re on your break, Girl. " Kit continues as she gestures to an empty seat at the table next to ours. "Come sit down and help me convince this bunch of manic depressives that true love still lives."
"Kit!" Shane chastises as soon as the words leave Kit’s mouth. It’s the second time in as many minutes she’s had to warn one of us for speaking without thinking.
"Oh…" A beat passes as Kit instantly realises her mistake. "I’m sorry, Lara I didn’t think. Jesus why do I always have to open my big mouth!" Her apology although heartfelt is quickly dismissed by the woman now sat opposite me.
