    The Suitcase

    “Geez! Are you okay?”

Tina couldn’t speak yet. So she nodded.

“I can’t believe you and Bette do this to yourselves. You both are insane.”

Tina took a couple of deep breaths. She was finally able to speak.

    “Exer…cise…is…good…for…you…”

    Tina took another deep breath.

“I’ll take your word for it.”

    Tina smiled.

    “Here ya go!”

Shane thrusted the bag at Tina.

    Tina took another cleansing breath.

    “Thanks, Shane. You’re the best.”

    “You’re welcome.”

They could hear Bette in the pool. Her strokes were steady.

“How long has she been in there?”

    Tina looked at her watch.

    “A little over an hour.”

    “Hmph.”

    “It’s been a lot.”

    “For both of you.”

    Tina nodded.

“Are you going to drag her out of the pool?”

“No. She’s not swimming too hard. And she needs the time to process. I don’t want to push her or overstep.”

    Shane nodded.

“She’ll find her way back to me.”

    “She has to,” Tina added.

    Shane nodded again.

“Anyways. Thanks again for picking this up.”

    “You’re welcome again.”

    “Wanna come over?”

“No. I think it best you two spend as much time as possible without any outside influences.”

    “Thanks, Shane.”

“Plus, Kit made me my own bag of goodies.”

Shane held up another bag and shook it.

They both smiled. Tina squeezed Shane’s shoulder. They entered their respective gates.

Bette was still swimming and Joni Mitchell was still crooning through the speakers. Tina watched Bette for a second. She looked at her watch and rolled her eyes. She wished she didn’t have to go to the studio. She wished she could be here when Bette got out of the pool. She wished they could spend the day…just the two of them. Tina sighed and walked slowly into the house.

Tina took a quick shower and set up the food on the island. She looked out the patio door. Bette was still swimming. She left Bette a note and sent Shane a text.

    Tina: U still up?

    Shane: Yep

Tina: Check on Bette in 15 minutes, please.

    Shane: Ok

Tina: She needs to get to the Gallery by 10.

    Shane: Got it

    Tina: Thanks, Shane

    Shane: Yep

Bette got out of the pool to find a towel on one of the loungers. Bette smiled.

    1. What a great chapter and I’m glad that the fact Jennifer was in Texas inspired you to update your story.

Slow steps but I’m sure that Bette will find the trust that Tina is not going to leave her.

      • Thank you so much. JB was lovely and I am so grateful I was able to meet her.

Slow steps for sure. But I think they are on their way. Therapy should be interesting.

    2. Thanks for the update. I could feel the panic in Bette when she saw the suitcase. Very understandable. And it’s good that Tina realized that Bette needed the truth and some reassurance that the situation was nothing to be scared about. But triggers like this will happen from time to time…

I really want Bette to begin to trust Tina again. But these things take time. So take the time Bette. Take the time to get to know Tina again. And I mean to really know her. And for god’s sake trust yourself. Trust what you see in Tina and her responses. No one cooks you a dinner when they are about to walk out the door.

Looking forward to this journey. Thankyou.

      • Yes! It’s definitely about trust. Tina needs to be patient and Bette needs to open up to Tina. It is going to be a journey. Therapy is going to brutal! Thanks so much for reading.

    3. OMG! The tension is so powerful! I know it will take some time for Bette to trust Tina again but must it be be so painful? Please don’t charge Tina! It was so good to see the pictures of them together so I feel their inspiration in your story. Keep the flow coming. They will make it back and it’s going to be epic. Epic I tell you!
