(The return of) Love’s Calling – 4: Connecting The Pieces

Antonio: “Ms. Kennardis there something I can help you with?”

Tina: (looking around the restaurant for Bette) “yesthe woman I was here
    withis she still here?”

Antonio: “No, I am sorry. You just missed Ms. Porter she left a few minutes
    ago.”

Tina: (her face and body unable to hide the news saddens her) “Ohthank you.”

As Tina makes her way to her car, she tries to comfort herself.

‘It’s better off this way.’ Tina’s mind tried to rationalize the many reasons
why, yet her heart refused to believe what her thoughts hopelessly tried to
    convince herself.

Two whole days had passed since Tina had walked quickly out of the restaurant
and Bette still wondered what had happened. Throughout her Monday morning,
thoughts of Tina and what happened Friday night filtered through her mind. Each
time she would try to convince herself that she needed to forget about it
because it was obvious that Tina was straight. But then a minute later, she
would remember how strong the attraction was between them and think she should
try to pursue it. Finally after many internal arguments Bette gave in to what
she wanted and desired and picked up the phone.

Bette: (buzzing her assistant Jonathan) “Can you get me the phone number for
Tina Kennard at Alphaville Studios. I really want a direct line to her office?”

Jonathan: “Give me ten minutes and let me see what I can find.”

Ten minutes later, Bette sat at her desk holding a piece of paper with the
phone number of one Ms. Tina Kennard at Alphaville studios. She reached for the
phone so she could dial the number but stopped midstream because she had begun
having doubts about whether or not she should try and contact Tina. It had
nothing to do with what she was feeling, but rather it was about whether or not
her calling Tina would upset Tina given the way she had walked out of the
    restaurant.

She desperately wanted to get to know this woman whose voice echoed in her head
since their initial phone call and now consumed her mind since their Friday
meeting. She really wanted to have a chance to explain about the phone call mix
up. She was unsure how to pursue Tina and did not want to cause her to run
further away. Suddenly, a mischievous smile formed on her face…the master of
seduction had come up with the perfect plan and began to write something on a
piece of paper. Bette finished what she was writing and placed the paper in an
envelope, sealed it and headed out to Jonathan’s desk.
