He glanced at Tina.
“Miss, I would strongly advise that you do not walk around the city without your personal documents in the future.”
Not waiting for the blonde’s reaction, he turned to the brunette and nodded in a courteous salute.
“Miss Porter, I guess I will see you on Friday night then.”
She answered with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
He turned to Tina again and looked at her intently, almost suspiciously… Then he joined his soldiers and the three walked away.
The two women watched them leave and for a few moments neither moved, as if to make sure that the danger was really gone. Then the brunette turned around and looked at Tina. Their eyes met and again, the blonde felt unsettled.
Suddenly, she started to panic. She felt dizzy and her heart was beating loudly in her chest. The whole scene started to unfold in front of her eyes again, and she realized the magnitude of the danger she had just barely escaped.
And then there was this woman. A woman to whom she owed her life, but who also confused her to the highest degree. Her exchange and behavior with this colonel had been so despicable… So, despite her gratitude, she couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
Even though everything about the brunette’s behavior toward her should have won her complete trust, her unfortunate experience of earlier that morning was still very present in her mind, and she couldn’t bring herself to take any risk.
But this feeling… Almost a connection…
An emotion that was as comforting as it was confusing and scary.
The tall brunette stepped closer and stood before her. Tina looked at her briefly, but then she couldn’t withstand her gaze any longer and she shifted her eyes to the ground.
“I guess I should thank you…” She said.
She heard a soft giggle and loved the sound of it.
“No, I don’t think you should do anything you don’t want to.”
The blonde raised her head swiftly.
“No… I’m sorry, that’s not what I meant.”
The brunette let out a smile that lit her whole face and told Tina that her line had indeed been understood.

But I won’t… I am so glad to see your name on the front page again that I am grinning from ear to ear…. Reading this agin brought as many goosebumps as it did the first 20 times that I read the chapter the day you sent it to me! Thanks so much for posting this story. You picked a very interesting time and location for this. Lots of tension, drama and heartbreak are inevitable given the circumstances. I hope Bette and Tina can find strength and solace in each other to get them through it all.

My dad was stationed in England and got lost in France on a mission, the resistance got him out, it was one of the very few stories he told.
Sweet mother of pearl Kw – 20 pages to “set the scene”!?! It’s like Christmas come early (LOL). This is BRILLIANT! I’ve always had a fascination with WWII and Civil War based stories. The opening evokes an array of emotions that are so palpable and hint at the intrigue to come that it sucked me in right away. I’m looking forward to seeing where you take us on this journey. All I can say is Godspeed to our gals. Patiently but eagerly looking forward to your next chapter :)
