She smiled as she wondered aloud: “Where are we going?”
“Are you scared?” Bette teased gently, turning down yet another road.
“Should I be?”
Bette chuckled, “Do you want me to tell you where we’re going? I can say it if you want.”
“No no,” Tina insisted, buzzing with excitement as she sat back in her seat, “I love surprises.”
They drove for a few minutes more, until Bette pulled into a drive that looked like an admission stand for an event of some sort. And when Bette drove up to a traditional drive-in movie, Tina was amazed. “Bette …”
And as Bette finally put the car into park, she let out a smiling sigh. “I know it’s really cheesy, but-”
The kiss caught Bette off guard, but she enjoyed every second of it. They both did. Tina had taken her seatbelt off to look around at the place, but with the look she saw on Bette’s face, she couldn’t help but show her excitement and awe. She threw both arms around Bette’s neck and kissed her until she had to pull back to breathe. “Bette, it’s not cheesy at all! I haven’t seen one of these in … well, forever! This is incredible!”
Bette was just breathing and staring at Tina’s lips, totally distracted as the blond continued, beaming with excitement.
“This is so amazing! And I love movies! I always wanted to just relax at the movies, but there’s always some jerk beside me who won’t stop talking, or someone kicking my seat, and I always said how I wished I could have been to one of these!” When she looked over to Bette, she had to laugh. “You might want to be less obvious.”
Bette snapped herself out of it and ran her hands over her face. “Sorry, I … you just sound so excited.” Then she smiled at Tina. “I’m really glad that I could make you so happy. I’ve actually never seen you like this.”
“I just love surprises,” Tina sighed, still glowing with excitement. “Thanks for taking me here, Bette.”
“Anytime.”
After some soft conversation, once the movie had started, Tina leaned her head on Bette’s shoulder and felt the strong arm drape over her shoulders. It made her smile, and it was comforting in a way she hadn’t imagined. It felt so right; she only wished she could have snuggled in closer.
