Chapter VIII

       The following day, Alice needed to get in contact with Sloan, to see if she can actually sing at the anniversary party.

  Carmen’s phone rang

Carmen: hello

Alice: hey, girlie, what are you up to tonight?

Carmen: I think I am staying tonight, maybe have a few drinks and watch a movie. Why what do you want to do? Want to come over, with Tasha.

Alice: Oh, like a double date

Carmen: what are you talking about?

Alice: me and Tasha, you and Shane

Carmen: she is not here.

 Alice: well, is Sloan there.

Carmen: yea, she is.

Alice: well, we are the way then

Carmen: okay, I will be here

          Carmen heard the door bell ring, but it wasn’t Alice it was her mother. She didn’t know her mother was coming. It was a surprise to her, her mother always called before coming over.

Carmen: mami, what are you doing here?

Mrs. Morales: mija, I was in the neighborhood, actually I wanted to come over, and you never call, or come by the house, por que mija.

Carmen: I am busy, mami. I have to work and take care of Sloan.

            Before Carmen went to close the door her sister and her brother come in with bags of food.

Ana: hey, wait don’t close the door

Carmen: what? Who else is here?

Rodney: I am. Here grab these bags. It’s your house; I’m getting in the pool

      Carmen couldn’t believe it; she had to call Alice to cancel.

Mrs. Morales: carmencita are you having company tonight.

Carmen: yeah, Alice and her novia are coming, tonight. We were going to watch a movie.

Mrs. Morales: good, then I cook for everyone. Vamo, Ana see it you can find a hoja big enough for everyone. Where’s Sloan?

Carmen: I think she is getting dressed. Let me go check.

   Carmen when to look in Sloan’s room, to check on her. When she opened the door she found her lying on her bed naked with only the towel covering her waist and thighs she laid on her on stomach exposing her back to the ceiling fan that was spinning. Carmen did not know who to approach Sloan, but she will be devastated if she didn’t see Carmen’s mother besides her mother came here to see her.
