Lara felt her defensiveness rising, but she decided to find out what Papi was talking about before she overreacted. “Why do you ask?” she replied as casually as possible.
Papi grinned when she saw that she had Lara baited. “Come on Lara, I’m sure you’ve noticed my interest in you over the past week.”
“Well, you’re not the subtlest flirter I’ve ever encountered,” Lara replied, trying to keep her tone light.
“Subtlety will get you nowhere,” Papi retorted with a lustful smile. “But, I don’t get you, Lara. Every time I turn around, you’re chasing after Alice. I mean, she just seems a little too boring for you.”
As Papi’s insult echoed in her head, Lara tried to control her sudden urge to stand up for Alice by starting a fistfight with Papi right there on the steps of the clubhouse. Instead, she attempted to organise her thoughts into a coherent comeback.
“Papi, your problem isn’t with Alice; it’s just that you’re not used to women saying no to you,” Lara said defensively.
“No, my problem is that you’re a fucking hot woman, Lara, and you’re wasting your time pining over someone who is never going to fully accept you,” Papi replied coldly. “You’re someone who doesn’t want a commitment, and I’m someone who understands that and is ok with it. And, as far as I can tell, Alice is as needy and whiny as they come. I just don’t get what women like you and Tasha find so attractive about that.”
Feeling dangerously close to losing her temper, Lara took a challenging step closer to Papi and spoke in a low voice. “Look, Papi, I don’t want to start a big thing over this, but don’t say anything like that about Alice to me again, ok? Alice is a sweet, beautiful, loving woman and I would be beyond lucky to have her in my life. If you can’t understand how that makes her the most attractive woman in that room, then I don’t think we have anything more to say to each other.”
Papi looked a little startled by Lara’s assertiveness, but she hid it under a wry smile. “Wow, you’ve really got it bad, don’t you?” she said with a derisive laugh. Turning swiftly on her heel, she walked back inside the clubhouse to join the reception that was quickly getting underway.

Gaah, I am in a fanfic tizzy. Updates rule, hope the next one is soon with this cliff-hanger. WHO’S she CALLIN’? Excellent description of Lara’s journey to the ceremony, when oh when will we get this much insight into her on the damn show? And I’m all giddy at the prospects of our heroines finally talking and adressing some logistical issues. I agree with Goldrun on the use of Helena, and also how you have Papi to tease out Lara’s feelings for Alice. Can’t wait for the next update! Please post soon!

What chels1126 said. Of all the adjectives in the world, “boring” is the last thing you can ever associate with Alice. And damn Helena’s really got a soul now. Great update, blue.
Ok, just read the last two chapters. After the first one I was like Lara…NO!!! I would never had guessed she dissapaered because of Papi. The only reason why she’s interested in Lara is that she can’t seem to have her. But I’ve gotta say, Papi has a lot of nerves after the rejection she got when they all went out. Loved it that you referred to Alice and Lara in the final episode of S3 and filling in the blanks of what Lara was going to say to Alice. We’ll never know what it was, but I like your view on it. :D And don’t forget, Papi and Shane…hint, hint. :P

OMG, no you just DIDN’T! leave us hanging yet again, that is! Great update…and LOL at Lara in a fistfight with Papi on the front steps {pauses to consider….really could have been intensely entertaining….but agree that it would have been a stretch} and to borrow a phrase from Mineralka….the use of Helena in this update…brill! oh…and btw, thanks for the sweet shout-out…So. Great update. Quick, but, like Gold, all too brief. (Trust me when I tell you that is a compliment I rarely pay to anyone!) Can’t wait to see how quickly Lara takes care of “things” so she can come to Alice without that bicoastal baggage. PPS
