Out of Closet (TiBette time-travel romance), Ch. 68, Finale part 4C: Chapter: Last curtain – The End is Here, finally.

“What can I say?” Alice shrugged. “I am a walking cliché. I rambled through the centuries and across the world, dispensing anecdotes, apercus and curios facts.”

“Are you trying to obfuscate the issue at hand?” Helena said, looking slightly annoyed.

“Well, look who’s been reading her Oxford dictionary word of the day,” Alice smiled innocently. “I bet you were dying to use this word at some point today.”

    “Enough,” Agent McKinnon finally intervened.

Alice laughed, “People, come on. I made it all up. I’m a writer. That’s what I do.”

“What do you mean, you made it all up?”

“I mean with Helena, we made it all up because, quite frankly, we don’t like her. She’s been pursuing Tina for months, even though she knows Bette and Tina are solid. Solid as in forever. We even have a name for them, TiBette. They are unbreakable. Helena was messing with my friends so we’ve decided to mess with her. It was all a ruse to make a fool out of her. And guess what, we succeeded.” Alice smiled and made a mic drop gesture.

“Pfft,” Helena wasn’t giving up. “You are making this up now. How do you explain Bette reappearance in the house?”

“She was on her way from the airport, so I called her and told her about your failed attempt to seduce Tina. There’s another private entrance into the house from the grove. That’s how she got in without being noticed. When Bette got home, we concocted a plan.” As Helena glared at her, Alice smiled innocently, “Come on, what self-respected conspirators would keep their windows open while discussing their secrets? We made up everything.”

“How do you explain this?” Agent Johnson turned the book around so Alice would face the picture of Elizabeth that bore such a striking resemblance to Bette.

Alice shrugged, “Genetics. Bette and this good-looking lady are related after all. You should see my great-great-grand aunt Lottie on Lenore’s site…Lenore is my mother…I look just like her, minus the crooked teeth because mine are prefect.”

Helena was furious. “What about Professor Kroll? You described in great detail your time travel experience.”

Alice waved her hand dismissively, “I lied. I’m a writer with a wild imagination. I was working on a sci-fi story and I was doing my research. When I interviewed him for the article, I got this idea for a fantastic story. I always wanted to become a published writer. You don’t believe me? I have a first rough draft almost completed.” Alice pulled her iPhone and began scrolling.

    1. Thank you for the chapter!

But ohhh – no. I’m hopping Candace grabbing not Bette’s hand, but Helena’s. Both brunettes, both in dark cloaks. It could be, isn’t it?

Please post soon, we need epilogue ASAP! :)

    2. Is this really the end? Not exactly a happily ever after ending in my opinion….

I think Alice’s explanation to the FBI is perfectly feasible. I would think that the FBI would have not put their criminal investigators on a case of claimed time travel but a special division who dealt with phenomena which were rumored to exist for which was not generally accept principles of nature – such as flying sauces, Big Foot, time travel, and aliens, etc. I would expect that the FBI would treat people like Helena and the Professor as slightly off their rocker…but this is fiction.

Now… I’m not sure that Bette and Tina have much control on where this portal takes them, but I assume its a single opening and a single exit. And reading about life in the 19th century and living it are two different things. Living in a community without electricity, indoor pluming, shoes designed to be worn on a left or right foot, no communication devices, and a life where the vast majority of time is spent acquiring money or food. A society where women are not just 2nd class citizens but for the most house holds domestic servants to men. A society in which homosexual attraction has to be hidden and never acknowledged even to the closest family member. And of course, the skill set need by Bette and Tina to survive? Being odd is not going to be their only problem. I’m not sure when you look at how hard that life would be, that running from the likes of Helena, Candace and the Professor is not a much better option.

Your story is unique and has been very entertaining. I for one have found the concept of time travel to be fascinating. But the thought of going to a time that was not my own and be trapped indefinitely would be terrifying. Bette finding Tina was her saving grace and was the only way she could truly survive the experience. But even this was not permenant, Bette had some ability to go back and then return. But my understanding is that the portal closes permanently with this last trip. At least that is what the Professor is predicting based on some science principles which have yet to be tested much less proven.

I know you have spent years writing this. I do appreciate it. I do hope that you do an epilogue and not leave us with a cliffhanger as to what actually happened. Our girls deserve a happy, peaceful and normal life.

      Thanks for the story…

      • Thank you for the insightful comment. Yes, the last chapter was not the actual finale, that’s why the epilogue is coming up. Apart from being a teaser (a little bit ;) ) I also wanted to stay true to my story (the way some of my chapters were structured in the past.) Thank you for reading, i really appreciate it

      • Haha, you put that idea into my head when you suggested 50 parts of the finale. Alas, i can only manage 4. The epilogue is coming and that will a final end to the story. I really appreciate your comments. Honestly, one of the earlier comments you made (maybe 10-15 chapters ago (which probably puts it 5 years ago LOL), is one of the reasons that made me going…the other reason that i’m a stubborn foreigner that wouldn’t just never give up…thank you
