Out of Closet (TiBette time-travel romance), Ch. 68, Finale part 4C: Chapter: Last curtain – The End is Here, finally.

    “I am brilliant, aren’t I?” Alice sniffled.

“Yes, you are, so your plan is going to work,” Tina smiled. “We are going to miss you like crazy but this is for the best. You are right. This is the only way but as long as we are together and safe, everything is going to be okay.”

As soon as Alice drove away, Bette and Tina got dressed in dark clothes with cloaks and hoodies over their heads and went outside, keeping themselves hidden in the shadows as they talked quietly. They checked the perimeter around the oaks but didn’t see anything suspicious. The plan was to wait until midnight and then approach the oaks from the opposite sides. Alice was pretty sure that was the better way to jump through the portal, in case someone was there to stop them.

    Meanwhile,

    The Porter Mansion vicinity

Helena was hiding behind a large bush, not far away from the oaks. Candace moved closer to Helena from the spot where she was watching Bette and Tina like a hawk for the past twenty minutes. They were standing together and whispering but neither Helena nor Candace could hear them clear enough. “What are they doing?” Candace asked quietly.

“No bloody idea,” Helena snapped. She was getting irate. The midnight was approaching and she needed Bette and Tina to stay away from each other. Divide and conquer was part of her strategy but so far nothing was going as planned. Helena needed to move closer so she could keep an eye on Tina but she was afraid of the noise she might make. The night was exceptionally quiet, no breeze, owls or any other nocturnal creatures out and about.

Suddenly, Tina and Bette moved apart and disappeared in the darkness. “They are on the move,” Candace whispered. “Divide and conquer, right?”

Helena nodded and whispered back, “Follow Bette. I’ll take care of Tina.”

Helena was watching Tina when she saw her moving towards the house. Something fell on the ground and Helena automatically bent to pick it up. It was a sealed envelope with what looked like a letter inside. Helena stuffed it in the pocket of her dark cloak, trying not to lose Tina in the darkness.

Candace heard some noise near the house and crouched down, slowly moving towards the oaks. Bette reappeared from the right, her head covered with the hood of her cloak. Candace couldn’t see her face but in the dim moonlight she could make out the long wavy hair and unmistakable curves that couldn’t be covered by any piece of clothing.

From the other side of the oaks she could hear Tina’s voice counting, “One…two…three…get ready to jump, Bette…five…six…” Helena heard Tina counting and positioned herself not far behind, ready to prevent her from jumping.

Candace was overwhelmed with darkness and noises that seems to be coming from everywhere and nowhere. Bette moved to the side where Tina’s voice was coming from, no doubt preparing to jump through the portal. Suddenly, the moon disappeared behind a lonely cloud. ‘It’s an omen,’ Candace thought absently. ‘No, it’s a sign…this is my sign and my chance.’

“…Nine…ten…eleven…” Tina’s voice was clearer and sounded closer to her.

Right after Tina whispered “eleven…” Candace ran, grabbed Bette’s hand that she could barely see in the dark, and pulled the brunette behind her as she jumped between the oaks. “…Twelve.”

The spark lasted longer this time and glimmered brighter than usual but it finally evaporated in the air. The moon moved from behind the cloud, like it was a magic trick and the darkness became less frightening and menacing. Tina came out of her hiding place and whispered urgently, “Bette…Bette…where are you?”

But wait…there’s more coming in just a few days :) Get ready for the Epilogue

    Comments

    1. Thank you for the chapter!

But ohhh – no. I’m hopping Candace grabbing not Bette’s hand, but Helena’s. Both brunettes, both in dark cloaks. It could be, isn’t it?

Please post soon, we need epilogue ASAP! :)

    2. Is this really the end? Not exactly a happily ever after ending in my opinion….

I think Alice’s explanation to the FBI is perfectly feasible. I would think that the FBI would have not put their criminal investigators on a case of claimed time travel but a special division who dealt with phenomena which were rumored to exist for which was not generally accept principles of nature – such as flying sauces, Big Foot, time travel, and aliens, etc. I would expect that the FBI would treat people like Helena and the Professor as slightly off their rocker…but this is fiction.

Now… I’m not sure that Bette and Tina have much control on where this portal takes them, but I assume its a single opening and a single exit. And reading about life in the 19th century and living it are two different things. Living in a community without electricity, indoor pluming, shoes designed to be worn on a left or right foot, no communication devices, and a life where the vast majority of time is spent acquiring money or food. A society where women are not just 2nd class citizens but for the most house holds domestic servants to men. A society in which homosexual attraction has to be hidden and never acknowledged even to the closest family member. And of course, the skill set need by Bette and Tina to survive? Being odd is not going to be their only problem. I’m not sure when you look at how hard that life would be, that running from the likes of Helena, Candace and the Professor is not a much better option.

Your story is unique and has been very entertaining. I for one have found the concept of time travel to be fascinating. But the thought of going to a time that was not my own and be trapped indefinitely would be terrifying. Bette finding Tina was her saving grace and was the only way she could truly survive the experience. But even this was not permenant, Bette had some ability to go back and then return. But my understanding is that the portal closes permanently with this last trip. At least that is what the Professor is predicting based on some science principles which have yet to be tested much less proven.

I know you have spent years writing this. I do appreciate it. I do hope that you do an epilogue and not leave us with a cliffhanger as to what actually happened. Our girls deserve a happy, peaceful and normal life.

      Thanks for the story…

      • Thank you for the insightful comment. Yes, the last chapter was not the actual finale, that’s why the epilogue is coming up. Apart from being a teaser (a little bit ;) ) I also wanted to stay true to my story (the way some of my chapters were structured in the past.) Thank you for reading, i really appreciate it

      • Haha, you put that idea into my head when you suggested 50 parts of the finale. Alas, i can only manage 4. The epilogue is coming and that will a final end to the story. I really appreciate your comments. Honestly, one of the earlier comments you made (maybe 10-15 chapters ago (which probably puts it 5 years ago LOL), is one of the reasons that made me going…the other reason that i’m a stubborn foreigner that wouldn’t just never give up…thank you
