“Anyone got anything planned for the weekend ?” Bette asked
“Not unless washing Angie’s school uniform counts “ Tina replied
“Angie ? Any plans ?”
The glare told Bette she was still in the dog house. She winked at Tina
“Why ?” Tina asked
Bette shrugged “No reason “
Tina looked at Bette as she reached for the last bread roll. Bette pulled a chunk off and dipped it into her dinner and ate it hungrily.
“Fantastic casserole Ti“
“Thank you “
Bette winked at her.
“Bette – what have you got up your sleeve ?”
Bette pulled her sleeve up theatrically “ Nothing – just my arm “
“Porter “ Tina said – she knew Bette was planning something.
“Angie – ask momma B what she’s hiding from us ?”
Angie looked at Bette and looked away. Bette looked at Tina
“You really want to know ?”
“Yeah “ Tina replied “Come on Angie – Bette’s got something planned for us “
“I’ll probably be left tidying my room “ was Angie’s only reaction. Bette stifled a laugh
“I see a vision of the future “ Bette said “ Madam Angelica in 10 years time”
Angie scowled again and Bette took a sip of her water
“Maybe for a smile from my beautiful daughter I will tell both of you what I have arranged “
Angie didn’t look as if she was ever going to smile again. Bette looked at Tina
“Well if Angie doesn’t want to know “
“I want to know “ Tina said “Come on Angie “
Angie didn’t look up – Tina shook her head
“Angie – I did not bring you up to be rude. What your momma said about your room was perfectly right – I would have taken your books away from you a few days ago but you have been warned “
If Tina had hoped to get Angie on side it failed miserably. Tina went back to her food and they finished their meal in relative silence.
“Any pudding ?” Angie asked hopefully
“Only if you smile “ Bette replied grinning. Angie looked like she was in two minds
“Come on Angie – you are a very lucky little girl to have everything that you have and most important you have two mommies who love you very much – doesn’t that get us a smile ? Just a smile pumpkin – a pudding and I might tell you what I want us to do on Saturday “

What a coincidence I just starting rereading this story this morning because I loved it so much so thanks for continuing it. By the way I love your writing and re-read your stories often. The way you continue to develop these STRONG yet vulnerable women is beautiful.

Great one again, AllyE. Have thought since Tina lost out on the job that she wanted that it was helena being a bad ass and bad mouthing her that lost that job for her. The people were all set to hire her and after the LA interview they didn’t. Helena got wind of it and somehow scotched it for her. I thought that Bette should have talked to Peggy or called in some markers from friends to get that taken care of. Helena should not be allowed to get away with her actions just because Tina chose to be with Bette. Hope it can be turned around for her and they call her back to the job. Thanks for posting.
