“Of course, we’re still on. Where shall I meet you?”
“Why don’t you pick me up and we’ll ride over together.”
There was a two second pause that to Ann felt like ninety minutes.
“I’m sorry…forgive me…” Ann apologetically broke the silence.
“No, no, forgive me, Ann. It’s been so many years…It still seems a bit surreal that I’m speaking to you. Of course, I’ll pick you up. Just give me your address.”
Ann recited her address. They chatted for a few more moments and then hung up.
She stood once again at her front window looking out at the world before her. Ann couldn’t help but feel the high school girl tingle of anticipation.
She hadn’t felt that way about anyone in…well, in a very long time.
“You should be ashamed of yourself, Ann Kennard. You’re giggling like a girl with a crush.” She laughingly admonished herself. “The one you turned away is picking you up in a couple days. If there is even the tiniest chance a spark remains, do try not to fuck it up this time, old girl.”

Good old Sheriff Bob returned to the courtroom after taking the defendant back to lockup for the night. He stood by the doors in the back of the courtroom while Tina and Steve were packing up for the day. He smiled to himself as he watched the young attorneys. In his time in City Hall he saw the rookies enter, flounder on the deck of the big ship Lady Justice, and finally after many a gulping gasp, be saved by the wisdom of experience to become fine lawyers.
Bob knew Tina would have a spectacular law career. She’ll make changes. No matter the side she’ll be serving, she’ll do the job. Maybe she’ll even be a judge someday. No matter. He hoped he would be around to see her ‘make good’ and also hoped Tina would always remember Sheriff Bob. He hoped someone would always love and be good to his favorite Assistant District Attorney.
“Okay, Bob, we’ll see you tomorrow. Not too much longer now and we’ll be out of here.” Tina patted Bob on the forearm.

Loving that they are getting closer. Also looking forward to Tina’s mother Ann reconnecting with her one true love. I can’t wait to read how that happens. Please don’t let the wait be to long. Tina and Bette need to move in with each other asap.

Hey Acreextl, I can completely identify with the way life interferes with writing and reading but on to this amazing tale. This story is full of love and mystery along with a large dose of malice. The adoration that Bette and Tina exhibit is awesome; they just complete one another in the most primal and basic sense. The sum of their parts is so much more than the individuals. There is a realistic portrayal of love and passion. It is great to discover that the threat is an old boyfriend of Tina and not someone from the case however John is turning out to be a real piece of work as I am sure he called Ann as part of his devious plan. Just trying to figure out what his endgame will be. As for Ralph, just a big waste of space and am sure that there is a come-uppperance in his near future. Thank you so much for continuing with this must-read story using all of your imitable and twisted mind. Your gratiful and Loyal Fan.
I hope that John makes a mistake and is carted away to spend some time with his buddies, the inmates of some prison. I love this epic for your story telling and soft words of love and life.
